I had Roku and Firestick because both were reasonably priced but I had constant issues connecting to apps to watch. The main issue I eventually had were the ads that were always showing and with young kids in the home, I didn't need them constantly bombarded with things they shouldn't be seeing. I finally decided to go with the Apple TV and have had no complaints about connection issues or ads. Hope that helps.

Tell me why I need this. I'm looking for a reason to upgrade over Roku.

You probably dont need it if u arent having any issues with Roku. I am exclusively roku currently, having been heavy into android/firetv for years. After dealing with bloat/app lag and now random HDMI CEC issues, ive finally convinced myself to go with apple tv. Ive read that they are just hassle free and perform very well. I have a plex server and use the typical streaming services and am just hoping to find an better experience with a rechargeable remote. You should take a look at the costco apple tv thread as there are many more posts with more reasons you might want to consider.

I personally like the remote better. Roku remote felt cheap and plastic.

Can this play videos from my local nas(TrueNAS)??

Im getting mixed reviews saying it can vs it can not.

Very confused
You just need to install a media player app that supports NAS devices.

Someone else mentioned Infuse, which costs money. On the free side, VLC is one of the best media player apps.

Okay thanks. I'll go with the Nvidia Shield then. Seems like a better product for my needs.
I had color issues with the Shield TV Pro on my LG OLED, namely some really bad desaturation. I played around with the color profiles and just couldn't get them to look right. I googled the issue too and it seemed to be a pretty common thing at the time.

I have a jail that runs plex server on my truenas. This runs plex in 4k hdr dolby vision flawlessly.

I have roku, 4k firestick max, the new chromecast with remote, apple tv is probably the best for simplicity and fewest hiccups. Added benefit if you have an iphone, is the remote function is super easy and handy sometimes.

I took touch control off the remote, and just use the buttons since that's easier for someone else using the remote.

I wish it had replaceable batteries, but it rarely needs charging. It's just so small it's easy to lose and there's no "lost remote" pinging option like there should be.

I have the Apple TV 4K from couple years ago, other than the updated remote and Dolby which I don't care about, any reasons I should get this?

Does anyone has suggestion on storage space.
Its not clear how much will be storage remaining storage out of the box for actual usage.
if it runs out 32GB limit with 20 to 30 apps, with few bucks difference to 64GB version may seem to be better.

Suggestions please. confused between 32GB and 64GB.

Yes. You can use the app Infuse ($9.99/yr) and it can support Dolby Vision/Atmos playback. I'm sure there are other free apps but Infuse is very good. It will handle syncing with the NAS files and downloading posters and such.
Apple TV doesn't do atmos via infuse when the HD audio track is decoded to LPCM. Apple TV only does atmos from streaming apps, but that is not lossless audio.

That's the biggest drawback of the Apple TV compared to the nvidia shield, which does do full Hd Audio playback with atmos.

But in my opinion, the Apple TV is a more polished product. I have the shield pro and my roommate has the newest Apple TV.

32GB is plenty for apps. The only reason to go for the 64GB model is if you plan on downloading a lot of games.

I too noticed the same color issue with my various LG OLED tvs going back to 2017 when I got the shield and had an LC C6/C8. I noticed when comparing the shield tv to the native tv apps, the shield apps were slightly duller, and not as sharp.

So I got a 2019 Shield Pro and a new 77" C9, but still the same lower quality in shield apps compared to tv apps.

I still have the shield and only use it for UHD/Blu-Ray playback due to the bitstream audio and subtitle capabilities. For everything else, I use the native apps.

Wished I could get the Apple TV but that doesn't do full Hd audio bitstream, it decodes on the Apple TV itself but losses the atmos track. I compared the Apple TV apps to my native C9 and they're identical. The Apple TV UI is in 4k while shield is 1080p. Overall the Apple TV is a quicker and more polished device.

I previously had a Roku and now use Nvidia Shield Pro 2019. I'm buying this Apple TV in order to play Dolby Atmos music with Apple Music. My current 2019 Nvidia Shield Pro does not support the Apple Music app and I want to move away from my $20/month Tidal HiFi subscription that includes Dolby Atmos to Apple Music at $10/month. I play Dolby Atmos music on my home theater system.

I'm tempted by this. My shield is old and has annoying controller issues. I'm all in on Android but this specific device seems like what I'm looking for. Something that is really high quality and always works. Is this the right move for an Android user?

I have a U8G TV with Google chrome cast with Google tv device and it will drop frames quite often when streaming 4K videos (HBO max/Netflix/etc). If I switch to this would it go away? It is hooked up via Ethernet as well.

Or install Plex server on the nas and serve it up for free.

Just got one. It's seems a good deal and there's time to return it if it doesn't work. 🥳
