I have a fire alarm speaker in my wall where this would need to go that is probably 3-4 mm thick.
Depending on where the speaker is, you should be fine. Basically the rim is close to flush but the interior of the back side is empty. Imagine a three-inch thick rectangle with a screen held taut on one side and the back side open.

The L9 is the next-gen model with three lasers, "TriChrome", which has richer colors bc a laser each for of RGB, instead of a laser plus a color filter. Or something like that. If I had had more disposable cash and had another several months to wait before getting a projector, I'd have gotten the L9, but I got the L5 120" when it was on here last year. It's pretty darn nice, tho pixels are sometimes jumpy on high-res shots (sorry I don't know how to describe this) and I'm guessing maybe that doesn't happen with the L9. I'm pretty darn pleased with it. Pretty decent during day with windows open, ( for a projector setup…) tho dark scenes can be a little frustrating, as expected. The L9 is also a little brighter. If you've got the money, go with the L9…
