Scheels has supreme 30 size for $69.99, with free shipping. definitely a better deal than president XT at the same price. a few bucks more expensive than the previous FP deal. There seems to be some coupons available but I haven't figure out how to apply them.

The 20 is the size of most other brands' 500. It's small. Look at the line capacity.

I'm aware. That's what I'm looking for. It's for a backpacking trout setup.

The recent Pflueger reels have been kind of a let down.

Edit: just to clarify, I don't know what they've changed, maybe whatever coating they use for the reel, I've got a president that I bought sometime in 2008 - 2009 and it's been used and abused repeatedly, submerged in salt water, dropped in sand, etc. Still works fine with the annual cleaning. I got another president in 2019 and you can basically forget about using it for salt water. If you do, I would suggest cleaning it immediately (that's something you should do anyway) after any trip. For freshwater, it should hold up fine (but honestly, a Daiwa QZ750 is a better reel).

I'm interested in trying out reels from those newer companies like CarbonX. Specs are close to a vanford except for the weight(material of course).

I got a President late last season and it has changed my life. I have a half dozen reels at that price point or cheaper, and it's hands down my favorite in that category.

Yeah, that's a piscifun reel looks great on paper. Piscifun and Kastking seem to have some competitive products in <$100 range but I never used one.

Same. Thought I had a great reel with the Lews Xfinity Speedspin.

Got a President this year on a Fenwick rod and was blown away by how sensitive and smooth it was. Got the bug and been looking to upgrading some of the gear.

I know there's even higher level of 'quality' in the world of reels & rods, but the President has been a nice upgrade.

The Carbon X looks awesome and I love that they sell shallow spools (allow for a larger diameter spool that doesn't hold a lot of line) which would be kinda awesome for bluegill/crappie and such. The larger spool would equate to less line twist. However, that's over $90 (before the normal 20% off) and that's a lot of money to spend to "check it out", IMHO. Even then, we're stuck with a reel that may or may not have replacement parts available in 5 years.

I'm yammering on, but if anyone has any suggestions on other options, I'd love to hear them.

Good point! I've used both extensively. They're all good reels, though I've found Piscifun to be more hit or miss than Kastking. And I reach for my Pfleuger before any of them.

I really like the KK megatron and zephyr, and the sharky and crixus have taken a ton of abuse. My best Piscifun reel is an absolute horse that they don't make anymore.

Neither make great rods, though KK rods are way better than Piscifun.

Crud, I missed the Cherrywood rebate/promo... I probably would have grabbed the 5'6 setup for my son (and or daughter) as he's starting to outgrow the little Dock Runner I bought for him to learn to cast on.

Okuma avenger is only 25 ish dollars. It's a size 500 reel. Though it weights only .2 oz less the. A ceymar c10. Almost half the price though with the current sale.
