Great product. I use mine almost every day for streaming, Steam streaming and Kodi. Much better for kodi than firetv if you have a large library.

Its interesting to see most positive comments are from people who own this and use it daily. The nay sayers look at the spec on paper and call it crap or they dont have a use case for such a powerful player.

Same thing has recently happened to mine. I was assuming it was the remote. The original remote died so I've been using my LG tv remote. It had worked fine but a few months back I started having the issue you are having. I don't remember an update coming thru but maybe it did. I also don't think it is as fast as it used to be but they just be me thinking that because it is several years old. I keep hoping they will come out with a new one with an upgraded cpu but I've been waiting a long time. I kept hearing last year that they would have to come out with a new one because the cpu they were using was going to stop being manufactured at the end of 2021. Either they had a big supply on hand or that didn't happen.
I also have had weird things happening lately. Just a few days ago nothing would play in any of the streaming apps. You could get to the screen to choose what you wanted to play but then just get a blank screen. It was the same in every app including Hulu, Netflix, Apple tv and Disney+. Rebooting didn't help. I finally decided to just unplug it and let it sit for about 20 minutes and then everything worked fine.

Apologies for my stupidity…does this upscale content on streaming apps? I use latest version AppleTV 4Ks to stream YoutubeTV, Netflix, ATV, Prime, HBO Max, library from a Plex server at up to 4K. No issues on WiFi or hardwired, bitrates of 100 mbps+ are handled with ease. Much happier with this versus other high end devices. Simplest question, is this Nvidia device going to upscale streaming content that's 1080p on YoutubeTV/HBO Max/Netflix to 4K?

Looking for something that will do 3D and HD audio passthrough. Series X can't handle 3D signal to projector. Anyone have any experience with that?
Can you clarify what you mean by 3d Signal?

Are you referring to the series X having an issue with 3D Blu ray discs?

I can comment on the HD Audio passthrough. I stream 4k UHD Blu Ray rips through my shield. One room is a Dolby Atmos 5.2.4 room pulling 4k Streams from the Plex server in our house. Atmos/DTS:X streams fine in this regard.

Let me know if you have questions, I've been through a bunch of different devices before landing on the Shield, Xbox Series X included.

That is what I've read. I don't understand how it can decode such demanding audio from movies but can't do it from a music file. It can't be a hardware limitation and I would think the underlying software isn't the issue. I also hate how the apps are different on every device. Amazon Music shows the bitrate it is playing on the shield but if I use the app on the LG tv it doesn't show that info so I have no idea if it is in HD or not.
I agree, but this is a common problem in media players. The big companies only care about selling their services, I will bet you most Amazon Music HD users wont even know the details of playback.

How do you like it? Is it worth the cost? I dont really have any music streaming services, e.g. Tidal costs too much, but I do have a nice sound system so I should look into them.

Yes, the upscaling will work with all of those. you can read more here

I prefer spotify just from ease of use. Amazon is just easier to use with their devices and my wife listens to it a lot because she can tell it which devices to play on and she can then have it playing in the rooms she wants. I have a nice sound system using a nice mid-level Denon receiver that I got at Fry's when they would run them for half off or more. If they were still around with those deals I would have upgraded by now. I'm not into the surround/atmos music audio. I've never been impressed with what I've heard. l would like to play the audio at the resolution they are streaming though, which really annoys me with the shield. To be a top notch player, they just ignore the music aspect of it.

Thanks. This is only through your own media stuff like on kodi or does it upscale 480/720/1080 from Netflix, hbo etc?

Two reasons that I bought this device:
* Ai upscaling from 1080p contents to 4K. Shield was best out of all that I tried.
* Play 4K dolby vision + dolby atmos contents straight from Plex. It plays any remux that I throw at it.

Although it is not as powerful as having a dedicated pc, it sure brings enough feature and the horse power to run them. I have been using it for 2 years but definitely keeping this until I upgrade my tv to 8K.

I have the orig and this one, both have been spectacular! My kid once shoved a piece of pepperoni in the usb slot and the shield played a movie. (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs). Yes, it costs more than the basic players, but well worth it for your viewing /gaming pleasure.

For context I have 638 movies and 50 TV shows and I love it as a server. We get 2 streams cleanly (haven't tried 3). I've seen a lot of complaints but I haven't run into them yet.
Can you tell me more about Plex? When you access it, you're accessing it online or local network?

Appreciate your response as well, as stated above I'm using Plex for server and playback. So the 3D formats are already ripped and on the server. Series X doesn't properly send 3D signals so my projector never recognizes it and the 3D options remain greyed out.

How is the remote on this one? I have an older one and the remote dies constantly.

Does it take normal batteries?

AAA batteries last a long time on this one.
