We're not arguing whether "new is better" but comparing prices on deals of used/refurb/recert vs the "new" postings on SD is pointless.
At least I stay on subject. You just post to troll others and it has everything to do with purchasing a hard drive. If you cannot understand this then you may want to stay off forums and take an english class or read more books, this may help you understand what people are trying to convey.
OEM drives according to Seagate are drives sold to system integrators, such as Dell or HP, where the drives are sold as part of a complete system. That's the case where Seagate will not offer warranty direct service.
"I even used a modified cable and still doesn't work."
If you modified the cable and it still didn't work, you modified it wrong. There's a ton of info online, just do one of those solutions and it will work. PWDIS drives aren't that uncommon. This has all been covered many times before.
Either pull off the pin on the drive, tape over the pin, modify the SATA cable, or use an adapter. Any of those will work.

Says the person complaining they don't "get" these SD drive prices when they're comparing used to new. Okay bud. Keep commenting on all of them then, makes sense.
Of course I dislike chia farmers. The same reason I dislike crypto miners buying up all the GPUs. You people are largely responsible for driving up prices and artificially eating up inventory. Who wouldn't be annoyed by that?
Meanwhile, those of us with more reasonable storage needs (to, you know, store data for us and not just try to generate revenue passively) have to wait for stock or pay a premium.
But yes, please tell me more why my actual storage needs are lame compared to someone chia mining and driving up prices for everyone.
Do you even click the deal links to see what they are?

the bad deal is dead
The fact is X18 is better than X16
14TB is a rip off for anything over 170.00

Thanks for reporting back, gives me some piece of mind for next time.
My drives arrived also and can confirm warranty is good til 12/30/2026. The date of manufacture on my drives were Sept 2021.
As for packaging, I couldn't ask for better packaging. Each drive was wrapped in a tight bubble envelope inside its own box. That box was inside the main shipping carton covered in more bubble wrap.
They get the drives from Seagate and are recertified , and checked with more tests than a new drive to make sure it is in working order, better than new.
The drive label will be a white label saying recertified.
I will be spending 5k and buying a huge lot at a discount more 20+ and will receive 5-6 bucks off any drive they sell.
I was also told they are doing business with a crypto farmer with a 4 million dollar budget . You wont find any other reseller this reputable.
If you want a guaranteed warranty through WD or Seagate make sure you buy on their website . Any other drive from a 3rd party is questionable unless you buy from Best buy etc and always check the serial number when you receive it on the seagate website.
The store i mentioned also checks the drive for up to 1-10 hours when they receive it from seagate and all smart info is erased. They do this in case a defective drive was delivered from the manufacture due to shipping damage etc.
Like i said earlier do some sort of preclear to check the drive or write to the entire drive to see if there is an issue. Drives usually die after a few weeks of operation, after that they w ill last many years. Drives in operation should stay under 45c and handled properly or you may run into issues in the future. CMR is built alot better in my opinion . From my experience i had 1 seagate x18 18TB die after a week out of 150 drives i run constantly in my servers which are all CMR. I have not had any errors on any of them in two unraid servers which have been powered on over a year.
good luck
I am fine with that , i dont need 5 years. In 5 years I will have sold all my 8s , 12s, and 14s,
We will have 25-50TB out by then and walmart will most likely sell 18TB with nand technology on the shelf at a reasonable price
In fact I will be selling all my 8TB SMR drives soon to make more space for CMR drives
