here is the warning to newbies. this can be addictive. I keep on wanting to upgrade to a newer bigger synology over the past 10 years
I've been using Drobo for many years, but it looks right now like Drobo as a company might not be around for much longer. Certainly their units are next to impossible to find right now. I have two Drobos up and running now, plus a 3rd unit that's in the box unopened, just incase of a failure, but their proprietary storage system makes it necessary to possibly start looking at a new system. And, it may just be Synology.
Whenever I post about recession in ssd or other laptop thread some stupid down votes me but sadly this is the truth ain't no hiding around.. they printed the dollars a bit much .. had sub 0% int rates. A bit too long and the pain is being felt by everyone. Mark my words stock market will be in worse shape by Thanksgiving or Christmas this year.
So the celeron in the 1520+ is the only cpu capable of transcoding for plex?
the 920+ has the same celeron (check this chart https://nascompares.com/2021/03/1...1-edition/)
but for ~$150 more you could get the 1520+ with an extra bay and more ram. That's up to you if it is worth the upgrade.
the reason why the 1520+ is so popular is because its the best possible Synology for an all in one plex server
For anyone new to this, you also have to consider that hardware-accelerated transcoding is a plex pass feature.
Again, the main advantage (imo) of the 920+/1520+ is for people that want an all in one plex server and have a plex pass. Some people would just recommend getting a 1621+ and connecting a cheap Intel PC to be the plex server. Both have benefits/trade-offs that you have to decide on.
With these newer AMD Synologys you can still stream movies but it has to be in the exact same format the movie is in. So your Fire or Roku has to be able to play the movie in the format it's currently in. Once you try to transcode 4k to 1080p or even 1080p to 720p with subs using the DS 1821+ (for example) it will struggle whereas with the 1520+ (if you have plex pass for hardware-accelerated transcoding) it'll play fine.
You're right, my mistake. Somehow though I listed the actual prices, and had a title that said "up to $100 off," it was reasonable to assume that I actually meant that you'd get it for $100.
Not working for me giving an error that the coupon doesn't work with the selected payment method, I tried both PayPal and direct CC.. not sure what I else I could do.. don't have bitcoins :-(

Up to $100 off is not the same as $100 for the NAS
Right in the title mate.

Here, just for you, an under-$100 pre-tax Syno NAS [newegg.com].

Micron just reported excess, Nike reported excess, LAM is expected to report excess, NVIDIA has excess, list goes on for chip and non-chip companies.
Rising rates, fed QT, layoffs, only gonna compound the glut.

I'm shocked. Shocked to hear a promotion was not honored.
