This is a decent price on a good router, but it doesn't qualify for the giftcard promo.

It did when I ordered it on Saturday. Even without it, the $140 is the best deal for this router ever posted on SD.

No 160mhz channel support. What's so great about this router?

Well how many people have devices that support that 160MHz -- and even if they do, does an iPhone really need 4Gbps of throughput? Smilie While I'm sure some people have clients that would utilize it, I bet 90+% users would never see the difference. So why spend $200+ for a fancier AX router when this far cheaper AX one will effectively work just as good? It has 3x3 for both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz so it's no slouch! Also, with it being an AX model it should get Asus' latest generation firmware (388) which means it will get support for many more years -- unlike their AC routers that they announced recently will remain on 386 firmware.

Good router. I've been hoping for a good Black Friday deal on the AX86U, but I may settle for this one.

Buy now and just don't open until after BF -- that is what I am doing.

Good strategy since B&M stores make for quick and easy returns. I prefer Asus routers for many reasons.

You need to add the gift card for it to subtract, kind of weird not to automatically add, but ya, click on details of the promo.

There are a lot of higher end Asus routers that are wifi 6 or ROG series. This is a budget entry line one. Seen ROG wifi 6 for $120-$180 range commonly. Better internals CPU ram and transfer rate. Tri band also.

I got a bunch of 160mhz capable AX clients - laptops and desktops. Phones and other devices are mostly AC at best. With the ax clients at short distance, I was able to saturate my gig fiber connection over wifi. Most stuff is wired here, so wifi is really more for convenience. Probably worth trying the unit out to see if there's a marked improvement over the r7000 (with xwrt).

Do these units support robocfg for vlan config?

I also bought the RT-AX86S that you linked and plan to compare the two FWIW. Compared to the 68U, it has the same processor, same RAM, same memory, and is also just a dual band router -- all for $60 more. Starting to see how this is a nice deal yet?

Comparing it to a product that costs 50% more puts it in a different category. In addition, most wouldn't see any significant differences to justify the 50% additional money.
