Overall higher bitrate with much better PQ paired with the latest TV technologies. Suppose you want the best PQ. It's a no-brainer.

I ended up buying an open box 420 for $160 and have been very pleased but I am wondering if maybe I should upgrade. But can't really see Dolby Vision being worth $200+ more.

There are many probably many other videos out there.

Exactly! I'd also add even if you own a mid-range TV but have a premium sound system and stream only, you've also wasted your money since the audio bitrate from streaming is nowhere close to that from a disc.
Nope, keep your 420. It was a great deal and will last you until Panasonic or some other manufacturer comes out with an updated model.
I like HDTVTest's video for concisely and accurately pointing out what differences you should expect in a comparison across a bunch of different titles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbN00Sm

Are you using eARC? I don't have that problem with my UB820-K, but I'm running it directly into an AVR.
Yes! Not just the tone mapping, but the upscaling for 1080p content from Panny is also considered best in its class by many!
The AI upscaling from the shield pro is pretty amazing. When projecting on a big screen, it's a HUGE diff.

So if there is no, or only a few, content you want to watch included in the list, you don't need this device, right?

To the contrary. There are millions of shows one can stream, yet with a slave disc player, you are limited to what you purchase. Many only watch a movie once, so the investment is extremely steep for that one show. When DVD players came out and DTS was implemented, it was a huge improvement over DD. Then Blu-ray came out with better tech and sound, so all the DVD movies one purchase soon had little to no value. Remember the Oppo players everyone invested in so heavily? Those along with all the Blu-ray movies are now door stops because 4k is out now. Fool me once... Investing in the best panel technology doesn't cost you when the next player tech comes out. If you have money to burn, go for it. Discs make nice tree decorations. But are a bit expensive for one time use. If you're that guy that buys 25 or 30 4k movies and watches each 5x or more, this is for you. I've got a whole stack of DVDs and 1080p Blu-rays that gather dust. I'll take the slight hit on PQ and SQ.

I personally own about 100 4k discs with DV. To each their own, I suppose.
I feel qualified to answer as I bought this back in November, and have disconnected my Xbox to make room for it. The difference is negligible on my LG OLED C1. They say that the Panasonic is better with color replication, but I haven't seen anything noticeably different. Having said that, I have yet to really tweak my TV or the Panasonic, but I suspect that unless I had both players playing side-by-side, I can't notice a much more improved viewing experience. That, and I haven't been able to play my CoD since I've unplugged the Xbox.
A sample of one is not a trend.
DV FTW.

Make sure you make all the proper settings to get the most out of the panny. The 820 is arguably the 2nd best mass market player available today, only surpassed by its more expensive cousin the 9000. But you do need to activate the right settings for your setup.
