My phone got really hot using this, and it drained the battery on my 30 minute drive to work. It may not happen with all phones, but it was a common complaint.
I'm not surprised this is finally on sale. I've had one for most of the past year now and while it works, and it has improved over time (likely due to android auto updates, since the dongle itself doesn't get updates at all). It definitely still has its bugs. Anytime I got on a 1+ hr drive using it for navigation there's a solid chance it will freeze/lock up or switch to a black screen and need to be disconnected/reconnected. Controls like changing songs lag 2-10 seconds behind actions most of the time with it as well. I'd say there's also a 25-30% chance it won't connect even with a 5 minute wait unless unplugging and replugging the dobgle. At least the audio bug where music became choppy when the navigation spoke has been fixed, and in general using it just for music playback is usually pretty solid.

For the record all of the above is in a 2019 Honda insight with a galaxy S22 ultra.
this is a great deal I paid 90 bucks a year ago

Thanks nipper1960

I've been having issues with my wired connection. I almost bought this when it was full price, glad I waited. Thanks OP.

So if you get this and 1 drive has android and 1 drive has iphone, the iphone user will still need to plug in and can't use this device at all?

Same price at Target by the way

Yeah you can technically get the ones that do both but I'm unsure how well they work. Apparently they also emulate via car play instead of their respective ones.

Yes, I have a carlinkit 4.0 for another car and it works great both with iphone and android. It does some sort of carplay emulation, so the car thinks it's a carplay device connected, but I get my android auto screen. Only thing there's another area on the dash that's supposed to display the song and that just says android auto when going through carlinkit, but the regular screen shows everything just as if I had android auto plugged in.

I guess this Motorola MA1 doesn't do that and carplay devices don't connect at all?

Yeah it will since it's full wireless using the 5ghz band usually. I have a wireless charger i lay my phone on to balance the battery discharge

I am using carlinkit 4 and my experience is completely different. ANDROID Auto doesn't work, screen blanks out. I tried several back and forth with support but nothing worked and in the end they told me to buy another version. Apple carplay works but it lags the Google maps, missed several exits during navigation and constantly crashes,so stopped using it.

I have been using this for a year. Solid build. It does what it's supposed to do. Probably on a long journey like 4-5 hours it disconnects sometime and reconnects. Except that this performs well.

Thanks. I'm going to try it but if it's that laggy will probably return.
