"Super slow" is relative. Buy this one if you do not need extra built in storage or memory.

I have this, the 14" pro, and the 16" pro. I honestly do not feel any difference using these devices day to day. Don't worry about disk benchmarks, especially if you aren't working with extremely large files (in that case you should be looking at Pro models or external thunderbolt 4 disks).

At my local microcenter $829 open box. I did find a better price elsewhere. Fix your EGO post
Ego post? I thought OP was being fair and opportunistic to help others?

These M2s dramatically improve with 16gb of ram, but for simple tasks base model is fine

Saying that you wont find it anywhere at lower price mean "dont search anywhere else cause i found the lowest price" which he was wrong. Ego post. Would have said "is a great low price" left it like that
Oh I see what you mean. I had over read it.

I have an 8gb M1 and just got an 8gb M2... I'm a (mostly Youtube) tab whore and have tons of apps open, but have never really felt it was an issue on my M1, coming from a 2012 MBP with 32gb of ram. If I could get a sweet deal on a 16GB M2, I'd def upgrade though. I have 16GB in my M1 Mini and don't feel there's any difference between it and my M1. Now, if you're going to open Photoshop or Premiere or something, then 8gb probably is only enough if you close all of your Chrome tabs. I use VN for what little video I need to edit thogh, and it barely uses any ram.

The biggest hogs besides Chrome are... PrusaSlicer 1.5gb, Messenger 1.2gb, Copied 1gb, Telegram .4gb, Reolink .4gb and that's all I have open right now.

The issue is that the old m1 had 2 128gb chips on it while the new one has one 256 gb. Having multiple basically meant it could read/write files faster. It'll still be way faster than an HDD but you will see benefits in certain areas going up to a 512gb even if you don't need that extra space. These are soldered to the computer so don't get any fancy ideas about upgrading after purchase
