For an extra $100, it definitely is worth it for the M3 Air.

You get dual monitor support, a faster processor, better read/write speeds on a base model over the M2 Air, faster Wi-Fi, and better mics.

Think about it over the life of the laptop, $100 isn't as much over the course of 5-7 years. If you can swing it, I would spend the extra $100.

Agreed.

Why apple is dropping prices this low, I have to say economy is changing... Demand is slowing

Does open box have same warranty as new ones from Apple? Can we add Apple Care?

It's not Apple that's dropping the price in this case, it's really Best Buy doing it.

I'd say the prices are dropping because it's a 2 year old laptop at this point and the 4 year old M1 Air is also $700 at Walmart in addition to less demand for laptops.

I got the starlight open box excellent for $749 only $50 more than Walmart is charging for the M1 seems like a pretty solid deal. Anyways check the open boxes and save some extra cash. I've had great luck with them.

I would normally say it's worth it just for chip alone, but m3 to m2 is barely noticeable. its not like m1 to m2 where gains were somewhat noticeable

It's not just about today though. The NAND differences alone will make things better with read/write speeds. Not that Macs are meant for gaming, but with the recent showcases of AAA games coming to Mac, some casual users may get the itch to play the occasional game or two which could be gate kept by M3 or newer down the road.

Unless $ is really tight or someone has an absolutely strict budget, It's not worth worrying as much over $100 over the course of a device used for 5+ years.

Think about it this way, brand aside, does it make sense to pay $100 less for a 2 year old laptop vs the latest/greatest? The M2 base is handicapped by slower NAND chips alone.

And when would I notice disk speeds when gaming?

When would I notice the 15%-ish speed bump the M3 gives when gaming?

On a Mac? Gaming? Smilie

If money's tight, save the $100 and get the M2. If it's not, get the M3. But in either case, most people will not be able to see any difference in normal use.
