Come on. Do not add pre-conditions to earn more. We are talking about no pre-conditions to earn 2% cash back on everything purchase and you just can't find the card to earn more. If you like conditions such as annual fee, member to open a bank account etc, that is a different thing. People may not like those conditions.

All these credit card churners coming in and crapping on the deal. I just signed up and it seems pretty sollid. Pay your phone bill with it and you're covered for loss/damage/theft up to $600 with only a $25 deductible. 0% on balance transfers for 15 months also. Lots to like here if you are looking.

If you have sufficient status with BoA you can earn 3.5% plus the 2% exec via one of their VISA cards ($2500/quarter cap)

Or with a different VISA card (also no fee) you can earn 2.625% plus the 2% exec with no cap

Plus at least half the year you can get 5%/5x UR there on at least one of Chase Freedom cards ($1500 per card and you can have multiple cards) as well as Freedom Flex and Discover (you'll need to filter those through buying Costco cash card on the website since the last 2 aren't VISAs but this still works fine)

Is there a blog that goes into details what you are talking about here?

Which part?

The BoA thing is right on BoA-
https://promotions.bankofamerica....rewards/en

The 2 higher of the 4 tiers get you a 75% bonus on credit card rewards... so for example the cash rewards card that normally gives you 3% in a category of your choice and 2% at grocery and wholesale clubs would now give you 5.25% in a category of your choice and 3.5% at grocery and wholesale clubs (up to a $2500 quarterly cap) and likewise with the cash unlimited card instead of 1.5% on everything you'd get 2.625% on everything. (the lower tiers are only a 25% and 50% bonus respectively)

Most folks who get such status do so by moving some IRA money over to Merrill Lynch since they're owned by BOA so your balance there counts toward status.

The 5x thing with Chase is just the normal quarterly rotating category-- for this year it's Oct-Dec for wholesale clubs (and paypal)

All the above said there IS one change to my post that JUST happened.... Costco announced they will no longer accept Discover card on their website after November 15, 2023- so you won't be able to use the 5% cash back Discover quarter (which works same as the Chase one but it's usually a different quarter of the year) to buy Costco Cash cards anymore.

Everything else I wrote remains accurate going forward though.

I met requirements but Wells Fargo has not provided the bonus and by their "calculation" I haven't met the requirements, despite having spent $600. Called customer service and they were supposed to look into it but haven't heard anything. Truist provided bonus within days of meeting reqs. Would not recommend Wells Fargo or this "deal".

But want to use a credit card to pay off a delinquent utility bill to rebuild my credit.
Would this card be good? Or too hard to get?
Or any suggestions from anyone?
I know this is from months ago (I didn't resurrect this thread) but if your charge-offs are from 'decades ago' then they should not be on your credit report. Most (not all) items can only remain on your reports for 7 years. If you pay on a debt, or perform an action, then that can start the statute all over again, but for the most part, I am betting a lot of your stuff can be deleted from your 3 profiles (just by going off what you said)

True, I'm only mentioning the old charge offs to explain the poor credit score.
The delinquent utility bill (that just keeps building up) is the current issue.

Go to a reputable free site that runs credit and first see what your credit currently is. If the debt was from years ago, it might have been written off. More likely though your number will be low and this would not be the card for you. By applying, you would probably lower your score temporarily. Look for a card that again is reputable for helping improve your score. IMPORTANT: do homework before you actually apply and be sure you can handle a new card. Some make the mistake of adding credit, get it and end up in worse shape. Given the tight credit situation of today, it's probably not realistic you will have many good options if your credit is sub-average or even average.

Could be to prevent identity theft. They want to make sure it's actually YOU that is applying for the card.

It has to be that since in today's world they can at least verify the employer instantly. I've never had a Wells Fargo account but they've been in the news the last few years for all the wrong reasons. Personally, I've had great history with Citi's 1% now, 1% when you pay. I pay the balance in full so I don't worry about rates (no idea what it is).

I have banked with WF about 6 years. Applied for $300 kick back card at WF. WF just pulled at TransUnion and my score was 824.

However, I was not approved by WF. I pay off balance every month.

So I applied at Citi a few minutes later and was approved for $200 kick back card.

I saw at least a couple of comments from people with good credit saying they were turned down, but I just applied and was accepted, so it is possible to get this card.

And yes, I understand that there are better cash back percentages available under certain circumstances, but an unlimited 2% cash back on all purchases is a good (one might even say "slick") deal. I'm also aware of Wells Fargo's legal troubles in recent years, but I've had various types of accounts with them in the past and never experienced a problem.

Credit card interest is high.
Simple trick for low interest rates. Find a credit card that offers 0% interest and a 3% transfer fee. I normally pay for all of my large purchases with my Chase Freedom card because it offers purchase protection and an extended warranty along with 1-5% cash back. Then I use my old Sears credit card to do a balance transfer and that big purchase only cost me 3-5% BT fee and I'm normally good for 12-18 months to pay it all back with the cash back offsetting the BT fee. Some even offer 0% direct deposit cash advances with the same fees.
