Samsung 970 Evo is a higher tier drive. It has TLC and DRAM and 600TBW for 1TB variant.

Intel 670p is a low end drive with QLC and DRAM, but it beats other low end drives in reliability and overall performance. 370TBW for 1TB variant.

As far as the flash is concerned, Intel QLC is not that bad. A Crucial P2 with QLC (which Crucial swapped from TLC after getting good reviews for the product) when cache runs out would sustain writes at 40MB/s, whereas the Intel QLC would sustain writes at >600MB/s 400MB/s after cache runs out. So there is variation in each production implementation although technology is similar.

Great deal, a couple bucks cheaper on 3/30 posting. Can't get much lower.

FYI. Newegg and Microcenter still has a lot of Intel 670p (which btw is manufactured before Jan 2022, the later manufactured version is called Solidigm 670p). The 2TB version has been consistently on sale at $80 for about 3 months already, and still has not run out of stock. I would say this indicates the price can still go lower given people who wanted a gen 3 drive already got one.

And what would happen if the Samsung cache runs out? Would it still write reliably fast?

Yes. Samsung is a higher tier drive. TomsHardware review has all the numbers. They only tested 2TB for each drive. Samsung 970 Evo sustain writes at 800MB/s. Intel 670p at 400MB/s (I made a mistake earlier). Crucial P2 (QLC) at 40MB/s.

If they're the same price I'd go with the Samsung, TLC vs QLC. Also they both have a DRAM cache but 1GB Samsung LPDDR4 is better than Nanya 256MB DDR3L-1866

While I agree you on price, many have already said in the previous threads what they got are 2023 manufactured version.

What price would you personally pull the trigger at? On the 1tb and 2tb? Serious question. Thank you.

Good to know. I stand corrected. Intel no longer wants to deal with SSDs. I don't know why Solidigm/SK would still want to put Intel's badge on it. But I digress.

Probably $65 on a 2TB for a 670p level gen 3 drive (in other words a tier above the bottom level gen 3 drive like PNY CS1030, Crucial P2/P3, WD SN350, etc). The 670p 2TB can be had if you have the 15$ MicroCenter new customer coupon if you lived near one.

Or $80 for a not bottom gen 4 drive (a tier above the NV2/P3 Plus, whatever that is). The sustained write speed doesn't drop to double MB digits.

Has Neweggs customer service gotten any better?

I haven't bought from them for years due to poor customer service. Now I'd rather pay more on Amazon or make the drive to microcenter. I use to get 90% of my builds from Newegg. My last order I ordered the wrong box of case fans and noticed on the receipt page seconds after ordering. I immediately contacted them and they said not only could I not cancel the order but they couldn't be returned so I was stuck with fans that I didn't want even after contacting them 1 minute after placing the wrong order. Since then they have lost thousands and thousands of dollars of my business. If they ever start to care about their customers again I might be willing to give them another chance
