If you have the Best Buy credit card, use code APR24EMOB25 for 10% off, $630 isn't too bad.

This one (Z1 Extreme) is the one to get. Don't get me wrong, the base Z1 seems superb compared to Steam Deck's comparable 512GB version, but damn, the Z1 Extreme is hitting 1080p/120fps in games like Forza and 60fps in RDR2, craziness.

Usually the first batch of YouTube reviews would tend to praise a product at launch as those are from privileged reviewers who receive a free unit from the marketing department of a vendor. I'm waiting for real end user reviews to see if I'd get one myself or invest in upgrading the 64GB SSD on my Steam Deck. If the Ally had a touchpad and ran Steam OS it would be closer to a perfect handheld gaming device, though today's battery tech would still cause concerns to some but it's the same issue no matter which device you pick.

For those ditching the deck for this, will you miss the touchpads? I don't own the deck but wonder how much of a loss that is for the ally if any.
I'm ditching my deck for this but I gotta admit I will probably really miss the touchpads they come in quite handy.

Any idea if BB charges for preorders at time of order or when it is closer to release?
From what I found they will authorize the charge so you will see a hold but that hold should be released and not charged until release date. Which was enough for me to pull the trigger Wink

This doesn't have a pause button. As a dad, this is a requirement.

Only up to 2hrs in gaming battery life. This will hold back the handheld severely. Will have to also pack an external battery.
two hours of battery for a powerful device like this is still amazing.

I've fortunately owned basically all the PC handhelds you can buy (Aya neo original, oxp 1 & 2, various gpd wins, etc(I even pre-ordered the smachz)) and while I've loved them all for different reasons, when I travel (which is weekly), I often still take my steam deck.
The suspend and resume function is so important for me that it's hard to justify losing it with bigger games. In addition to all the usual windows complaints which I can personally ignore, steamos is just a better experience for managing games, settings and controls.

All that said, I'm still getting an ally as I currently just plug my oxp into an egpu dock to play games on my nice monitors at home and this will provide a nice cpu boost but for people that truly care about portability the steam deck is still incredible value.

I mean, you didn't get the joke but this is a deal board, not a comedy one. You honestly tried to answer someone's question. The down-vote seemed harsh.
No problem. Thought it was one of those newbie questions from those who don't follow the Ally news and was just trying to help by providing some quick info.

Ps vita 2 will crush these things. Sony is on a rampage!
Sony's done with portables. The rumored one is just a cloud streaming device.

Thanks! I placed my order right before seeing this. Went back and canceled/reordered and was able to pre-order again WITH the code (saved me $70)!
They appear to have corrected in the system, APR24EMOB25 and q2fy24save10pl are no longer "valid for item(s) in your order" Frown

Edit: a later reviewer said remove the best buy card then add it again and the code works. This is correct. Cancelled a single two-unit order and repurchased two units on separate orders using the same April 10% off code, because it maxed at one $70 discount per order. Since I have a new account I should theoretically also receive $120 in best buy funny money ($60 each). $600 per unit isn't half bad.

They might actually be charging up front. I made an order and forgot to use a cashback site. So I cancelled the first order and BB said I will be receiving a refund back to the cart. I just checked my card and it shows a pending charge but it also shows a pending refund (for the cancellation). Typically the authorization would just fall off but in this case the initial authorization seemed to be a full charge. Otherwise, they wouldn't be issuing a refund.
