If you have the Best Buy credit card, use code APR24EMOB25 for 10% off, $630 isn't too bad.

This one (Z1 Extreme) is the one to get. Don't get me wrong, the base Z1 seems superb compared to Steam Deck's comparable 512GB version, but damn, the Z1 Extreme is hitting 1080p/120fps in games like Forza and 60fps in RDR2, craziness.

Usually the first batch of YouTube reviews would tend to praise a product at launch as those are from privileged reviewers who receive a free unit from the marketing department of a vendor. I'm waiting for real end user reviews to see if I'd get one myself or invest in upgrading the 64GB SSD on my Steam Deck. If the Ally had a touchpad and ran Steam OS it would be closer to a perfect handheld gaming device, though today's battery tech would still cause concerns to some but it's the same issue no matter which device you pick.

Only up to 2 hours battery life, one review website gave battery estimates for Witcher 3.

I wish the ROG Ally used a Thunderbolt port instead (or in addition to) their custom combo port for the GPU. I have a Razer Core X that can turn into a really decent makeshift GPU upgrade if you need the horsepower. It is old but it works well for any TB3 and TB4 devices I have laying around. Bandwidth is capped at up to 4 lanes of PCIe3 but that is enough for my uses.

I WANT this but I dont NEED this.... Looks really cool, I think I will wait for it to go on sale or maybe a open box from best buy.

Really do like this but with my gaming computer, my xbox, and my cellphone dont really need another form of gaming.

any good youtube review on this device?
Since it is not yet commercially available, pretty much everything you see is pandering ASUS ads posing as 'reviews'. I have not seen a single one I would call honest - everything positive is parroting ASUS press wording and presented MAJOR LIFE CHANGING DIFFERENCE whereas anything that is not as good (basically ALL of the controls. you know - how you actually play games) is diminished.

Don't get me wrong - it looks awesome and of course I have pre-ordered one myself ... but what you're seeing now is not objective, these people want to keep getting pre-release items to review. That is the game.

Sony's done with portables. The rumored one is just a cloud streaming device.
I hope not, Vita was actually decent despite its shit sales.

Don't know why you're being thumb down. This is true unless there was a new rumor.

There's a range of settings at play. ETA Prime says:
1080P Video Playback - 8:20
8 Watt TDP Gaming - 1:43
25 Watt - 1:04

If I didn't have Steam Deck then yes I'll get it. For now, I use SteamDeck + iPad Combo using Steam Remote. Works pretty well if you need larger screen. I'll replace mine when it's Steam Deck 2 or 3.

ETA prime clearly showed it doing both things in his review.

Only reason I'm passing is the fact that they excluded USB4 for their overpriced proprietary eGPU solution
To be fair their proprietary connector for the eGPU allows double iirc the bandwidth of USB4.

8W TDP (Silent Mode) is worse than steam deck performance FYI

There were reports Asus might be selling a replaceable, larger battery for it? Talk about nickel and diming lol.

I still preordered it. The specs are just too good compared to the Steamdeck.
