If you have the Best Buy credit card, use code APR24EMOB25 for 10% off, $630 isn't too bad.

This one (Z1 Extreme) is the one to get. Don't get me wrong, the base Z1 seems superb compared to Steam Deck's comparable 512GB version, but damn, the Z1 Extreme is hitting 1080p/120fps in games like Forza and 60fps in RDR2, craziness.

Usually the first batch of YouTube reviews would tend to praise a product at launch as those are from privileged reviewers who receive a free unit from the marketing department of a vendor. I'm waiting for real end user reviews to see if I'd get one myself or invest in upgrading the 64GB SSD on my Steam Deck. If the Ally had a touchpad and ran Steam OS it would be closer to a perfect handheld gaming device, though today's battery tech would still cause concerns to some but it's the same issue no matter which device you pick.

Things I've learned reading the comments in this thread:

1.) This thing will have pathetic battery life.

2.) The majority of buyers for this device enjoy throwing away their money on multiple handheld devices.

There's a range of settings at play. ETA Prime says:
1080P Video Playback - 8:20
8 Watt TDP Gaming - 1:43
25 Watt - 1:04
And when video playback become equivalent to gaming?

any good youtube review on this device?
LTT(Linus Tech Tips) has generally fair reviews and they just recently released their evaluation of it, objectively detailing all the features with data comparison between this and steam deck.

I would pick this over the Steam Deck. I really like my SD, but it doesn't have controller support for Windows unless you use some 3rd party hack. Even with the hacks, a lot of the other buttons are useless. The touchpad is useless as well. I was able to switch between mouse and controller on my GPD Win, but I guess Steam didn't learn anything from them.

Selling my SD for this eventually…just gave up trying to play anything GOG and Epic on it even with alternate loaders…probably won't solve all the issues, but 🤷

Bad time to pre-order an Asus product. Look at how they have been handling being part of the problem for AMD CPUs to burn up, GamersNexus absolutely destroyed Asus in their latest video.

Wait for REAL reviews, not the paid promotions by certain tech tubers.

Does anyone know if this handheld supports gyro controls?
Yes it has gyro.

For those of you signing up for bestbuy credit card, do they offer any perks? If it was 5% off every purchase like target red card, I'd consider it but if it doesn't, seems rather wasteful to sign up for another credit card just to save $70.

It's weird that some people doubt the battery life when it has a high refresh 1080p screen with a fast CPU and weighs light weight. You think all that power with a lightweight battery is magically going to go for hours? That's just not how things work....yet. I do hope that this keeps pushing tech so in 10 years we will have a portable gaming console with all this and weighs about the same but lasts at least 6 hours at full specs in moderately bright settings.

I have a steam deck. No way am I upgrading to this just yet. The single generation bump in specs don't seem worth the price to upgrade. Most importantly, even though it might have a good screen it's still an LCD screen. A good quality OLED screen on an handheld makes a huge difference in experience. Honestly I would have preferred if they had spent the cost to put in a 60Hz OLED screen than a 120Hz LCD screen.

The next steam deck will probably have an OLED screen. Or there might be other competitors in this price range with an OLED screen. Might as well wait for such an option.

eta prime has plenty of games benchmarked... and others have showed thermals and battery life. What more "real" reviews do you want?
Its basically a mini pc thats ultra portable with a screen attached. With 30w apu nothing is going to blow up if you are concerned. lol

It pretty much blows away the steam deck, but I really hope the button sticking issue only happens with the test units like Asus claims. If it happens to retail units, they'll all be returned to best buy lol since it's a pretty serious design flaw..

Also yeah the battery life sucks, but so does the steam decks. You're gonna get terrible battery life with either device. Yes you can adjust the power limits which will help a bit.. but that's the unfortunate downside of both of these portables.
