If you have the Best Buy credit card, use code APR24EMOB25 for 10% off, $630 isn't too bad.

This one (Z1 Extreme) is the one to get. Don't get me wrong, the base Z1 seems superb compared to Steam Deck's comparable 512GB version, but damn, the Z1 Extreme is hitting 1080p/120fps in games like Forza and 60fps in RDR2, craziness.

Usually the first batch of YouTube reviews would tend to praise a product at launch as those are from privileged reviewers who receive a free unit from the marketing department of a vendor. I'm waiting for real end user reviews to see if I'd get one myself or invest in upgrading the 64GB SSD on my Steam Deck. If the Ally had a touchpad and ran Steam OS it would be closer to a perfect handheld gaming device, though today's battery tech would still cause concerns to some but it's the same issue no matter which device you pick.

Looks like they removed the discount code with their card. Sucks because I signed up for a card just to use that code.

Sorry, but the promo code apr24emob25 is not eligible with the item(s) in your order.

I guess I still get 10% back in rewards, so not a complete loss I guess.

For those wondering about a hard inquiry on your credit. Do some research, it doesn't really impact your credit score much at all. It would only be an issue if you make frequent hard inquiries. A few a year is nothing.
q2fy24save10pl worked for me. I had to change the card to a different one, then change it back to the Best Buy credit card, and it worked.

Is anyone getting the error stating both promos codes
Listed on the first page of this deal no longer working? I've tried both codes (Apr/May), but I keep getting the error saying the code was not valid?

Tried to find an answer to this, but does the ROG Ally allow you to force 40hz like on the Steam Deck? It's such a game changer and a bigger deal to me than having the ability to play at 120 fps (which i would probably never do anyway since its sure to drain battery quick).
I like the idea of having a more powerful handheld, but not sure if the huge hit to battery life is worth it. The Ally is less efficient by all accounts, so just touting turbo mode speeds isn't the full story here. If you're planning to play mostly in docked mode, then sure its great if you don't already have a gaming PC/laptop. But if I can't optimize battery life by doing things like forcing 40hz or running a leaner OS like SeamOS, not sure if Asus really understands what makes the Steam Deck special.
SD = $400, easily upgradeable/repairable, tons of custom settings and 1st class software support
Ally = $700, better screen*, 120hz (that id never use), amazing fans, impressive docked perf

As others have mentioned, $700 is a good chunk of change that can get you a rtx 4070 with enough $ leftover to buy D4 ultimate edition. Its really a case by case of what hardware you already have and how you plan to use the Ally (docked vs handheld). Handheld Steam Deck seems like the winner due to efficiency, while Ally trounces SD docked (albeit for much more $).
The ally screen has freesync with a range of 30 to 120hz...so limiting the display at 40hz like steam is moot and pointless. All u have to do is dial in ur settings and watts to whatever fps u like, frame cap.. ect ect. Plenty of third party software if u dont like asus profiles. Its a windows pc.

For those ditching the deck for this, will you miss the touchpads? I don't own the deck but wonder how much of a loss that is for the ally if any.
The touch pads make it possible to play strategy games like civ6 on the deck, as well as any game that isn't meant for a controller. I think windows would be a miserable experience on a handheld too. If valve allowed steam OS on other handhelds, that would be one thing, but until it does I think I'll stick with the deck

Ok, that makes more sense. Thanks.
@boombashi corrected me, apparently you can install battle.net on SteamOS without too much trouble. So in the end, the original suggestion you can't play Diablo on a steam deck is incorrect regardless of the OS you use.

Edit: Found a tutorial, really is easy now.

I get your point on people having made their minds up already. I do believe people should try to find out on their own still (assuming its within their means to do so). I heard a great quote the other day about the Ally (and holds true for a lot of things): "you can't play a spec sheet". That's why I preordered it, because maybe I will love it, or maybe I will dislike Windows but HoloISO will work great on it, or maybe I will miss a bunch of the features that are on the Steam Deck. It's really hard to say until its actually in my hands especially with this market in its relative infancy and my current data point being just one handheld. And I can always return it if I'm not satisfied.
Holoiso?

How is HOLOISO these days?? Thinking about selling my Steam Deck, and getting this instead. Your input would be GREATLY appreciated.

I switched from HoloISO to ChimeraOS. It seems that Chimera is getting better support, Im not sure if HoloISO is still getting regular updates as I havent checked in on it in a few months. Chimera is great for turning old and new PCs into steam consoles. https://chimeraos.org/

ASUS can't make up revenue lost in the console in game sales like Steam can. So this is actually priced pretty competitively, compared to alternatives non-Steam Deck x86 gaming consoles (like the Aya Neo 2).

Steam Deck's problem is the performance is capped by low single threaded performance. If they did a refresh then none of the alternative will be able to beat them in price. But last I checked, Steam isn't interested in refreshing the Deck until at least 2025.

I'm super keen on learning about the product quality. Will it actually stand the test of time in terms of durability both from wear and thermal fatigue/ battery quality, build quality. This is still hella expensive when compared to even a ps5 which I don't yet have lol.
