Academy's version, which was $5 for a very long time, is now $6. I wonder how the quality compares to this Walmart chair (and previous years of each).
I have a few of each brand, but they're at least a decade old, probably older. I like having a couple anywhere an extra chair might be handy—trunk of a car, closet near the porch, etc. They're so cheap I don't worry about them getting mistreated, lost, or broken, though so far I've had no casualties.
If I *know* I'm going to need a folding chair, like for camping or a picnic, I'll take a nicer chair, but these dirt cheap chairs are nice to keep around for less predictable needs.
This chair is so uncomfortable, good for keeping people from staying for long
Are there any chairs somewhat similar that are not terribly expensive but are decently comfortable? I've been looking for something to sit outside when the kids are playing and see this type of chair everywhere but was surprised how awful this was when I actually tried one.

I have a couple different folding chairs from costco and this walmart chair, every one from costco is more comfortable, better made but also more expensive. They usually have them on display though to try out
To expand on everyone's comments as to how uncomfortable these chairs are for adults, the top half of the back support is way too forward. You cannot lean back in a comfortable position and all the stress is placed on your lower back. The lower portion of the back support poofs out backwards, which sounds comfortable in theory, but the top half of the chair will keep you leaning forward. Pass on this chair if it's intended for an adult. Not worth it, it's more comfortable to just sit on the ground.
I noticed the chairs I bought 12-13 years ago are wider and the material is better than the version like this I grabbed last year. To keep costs low they have made these things even cheaper and smaller... they are very uncomfortable for an adult male to sit in for more than half an hour. Not so much the back for me, literally my hips and thighs are pressed upon by the metal frame narrowness.
Just food for thought, if you really need something and want to be cheap, go for it. If you plan to use this regularly and for the long term, spend the extra money.
I have 4 that came with a popup tent deal years backs. I often grab them before other chairs because they are light and I don't have to worry about them. They aren't the most comfortable but they work fine.
These things are Okay I Guess but they're absolutely not worth over $6 and you should never pay this price, which is basically an everyday price now, for them. I had this same chair for $5 once, it broke, bought another one for $6. Just wait, you absolutely will see them go back down again.
Sorry OP, this deal sucks, because the ol' Shart sucks for pricing this junk this way.
These are the basic chairs that every place sells for <$10, and get clearanced out for $5 at the end of the season.
I bought a bunch of these last year for $10 on clearance. Much better and more comfortable chair. Take a look and see if there are any around you on clearance (they have a new version that goes for $45): https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-.../403423325

Made the mistake of buying 2 without even trying one.
The comment about these being uncomfortable is correct.
