This or a 7900 xtx? I see an open box satisfactory for about $200 more near me, any suggestions greatly appreciated. Going with my i7-13700k 32gb ddr5, ideally 4k on my 55" TV that's 60hz.

Check Gamers Nexus 7900xt review. The 6950xt is pretty close in most games, but variables like power consumption, ray tracing and vram might be important to you. Personally I would get this one, but that is based just on a few reviews, no first hand experience.

Edit - I misread and thought they were asking about the 7900xt.

The 6950 is about 11% better than the 4070 if size and energy draw isn't an issue. Keep in mind the 40 series cards are better at ray tracing as well. If that's also not an issue, the 6950 would be the better card.

I have a 6900 XTXH chip (basically a 6950) and a 7900 XTX. Both on 5800X CPUs. However one is on a 4K screen and the other is on a 49" UW.

In my opinion, the 7900 XTX is worth the extra 200 even if you have a 4K 60hz screen. The gap in performance is substantial enough in my opinion that for the extra 200 you are getting your money's worth in the extra frames, RT, driver support, 8 extra GB in VRAM, etc. The 6950 is no slouch but its already a 2+ year old card at this point and it regularly goes for 600.

Ive yet to see a 7900 XTX even used go for 800.

Raytracing is a scam. Fixing defects in rendering shouldnt be a "value added feature". A render should not have distortions beyond normal at 1080p and beyond. Also, game makers have not fully embraced ray tracing because it was initially proprietary. Make proper render effects standard without gouging and over hyping the consumer.. cause its a bunch of bullshit

A 6800xt is on par with a 3080. The 6900xt is like 8% faster than the 6800xt and the 6950xt is like 11% faster.
