The Ryzen GPU version with the 6800s is amazing because it lets you plug in USB-C PD and game on that with the onboard GPU and it will figure out how to distribute what power is available.

Wonderful for long plane rides, RVs, etc where PD is 100w or less and anything more than 150w will trip a fuse.

I imagine this with the Nvidia can't have that sort of flexible power usage.

I wonder if the 2022 6700s or 6800s version will go back on sale and if so, when. It seems like those are better value than this 2023 rtx4060 model.

That's actually dope. Iirc, using a dgpu on usb c will normally wear the battery to shreds bc of constant charge/discharging.

Any links to how it works?

Hmmm on my intel/Nvidia Razer blade I know I can get PD 65watt while it's using the dGPU. Razer claimed 100w but I checked and no matter what cable or block I use it's 65watt. Anyway it still games so much better than igpu but discharges, albeit very slowly and allows for hours of gaming.

Is there any reason an amd/Nvidia setup wouldn't allow PD?

With 100 w PD GPU has to turned off or power supply cannot keep up with drain making it not possible to game

QC of amd version was really mixed bag, with temp issues, and they didn't change anything from previous version

These have been little hotboxes going back to the 2020 and 2021 models (I owned both). Ryzen Controller worked great to reduce temps on the 4000- and 5000- series processors. And you can always disable Turbo Boost in Windows registry. With a Ryzen 9 paired with a lower wattage GPU, that always made sense and I hardly saw any performance hit.

I mean that's cool and all, but we do live a world where the Steam Deck and soon Ally are a real thing

Anyone have an opinion over the one posted here or this one: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus.../6494637.p

They seem to be overall similar in gaming performance. Any glaring faults I'm missing?*

*besides the physical screen size

I might buy an Ally but I mostly play strategy games. Not suitable for that. But even beyond that, it scores less than half that of a 6800s in Timespy.

No, it makes up for power from the battery. It can run about 2-3 hours on 100w PD + battery. If you take a short break, it'll top off the battery. You can also fix the power the GPU will use so it won't tap into the battery if you are fine with less performance.

You can't really do that with Nvidia.

But you're playing games on a smaller device, and can manage with a lower resolution to improve performance. A handheld is for endurance and portability, not raw power.

3070ti is superior. However, you have to choose between Intel and AMD.

Yeah or I can just buy a G14 that lasts longer, is far, far faster, has a much larger screen, can do work on, watch movies, etc.

Ally, SD, etc are nice toys though.
