6950xt has better rasterized performance while 3080 will do better in RT and also support DLSS. so you're essentially trading off features/performance, so not a meaningful upgrade.
and you already have a 3080 - don't reward these companies by keep buying their cards, especially when you don't need em.
unless you can sell your 3080 for more than the cost of 6950xt and make some money, i'd say it's not worth the hassle.

The 7900 XTX still has a 36% uplift over the 6950 XT [techpowerup.com] and I got the Sapphire Pulse version of the 7900 XTX which has a better cooling solution than the XFX cards with less coil whine, also I paid $889.99 + tax for it which isnt too bad when you consider that the MSRP is $1k... I know its still a $323 price difference from the XFX 6950 XT which is nothing to sneeze at but I already received the Sapphire card today from Amazon and the promo code for Resident Evil 4 in my inbox. The XFX 6950 XT is also longer at 340mm vs the Sapphire Pulse 7900 XTX at 313mm ... im going to try to fit it inside an ATX Mid Tower (Corsair 5000D Airflow) so shorter = better since im not using a full tower.
At least its slightly more future proof
