Yes and no. Not everyone needs a 2TB to get a better cost per MB. I think, for a quality SSD like this at $37, it's an awesome deal. You might find some Chinese SSD cheaper, but for reliability, name brand, and good warranty, this is hard to beat.

In 4 months, BF deals might be better, but one can wait forever!

EDIT: If you don't like Newegg, Amazon [a.co] is has it (through Microcenter) for $39.99 with free overnight shipping for Prime people (at least for me). You need to click "See All Buying Options" button on the right and look for $39.99 New from Microcenter.

I don't know why you're comparing both. They're in different tiers. Why would you ever compare Lambo to Corolla lmao

for 2TB: SN850X ATL is $90 vs $70 for 670p
$20 is a 30% bump in price

for 1TB: $37 vs $55, $18 diff is 50% price bump

the % differences are so big you really have to justify the upgrade. Is this a high performance gaming machine w/ gen4? Sure, sn850x. Low powered Celeron minipc with only gen3 support or for use in an external SSD enclosure? Hard to beat this.

I got 2 of the 2TB ones when they were $70. Good performance for QLC except that they dont perform well in Sabrent USB cases. Should be 1 GB/sec but run only at 650MBps that speed. Never figured out what the problem was other than incompatibility with the controller. Sabrent uses a RTl9210, which is very common. That was the only downside. Nowdays, I would get a SN850X 2TB for $80

Really need 2TB here . DCS been killing me over normal hard drive . eventually every body will be moving from a normal hard drive to NVME due to bigger game files . I already start feeling it.

Moderately dressed man walks into Home Depot:

- I would like this $13.00 sack of 50 qts of dirt."
- (Home Depot worker looks around nervously) I think this $10.00 sack of 50 qts of dirt is more your speed."
- But I want the $13.00 bag.
- Sir, that's a 30% difference in price.
- So?
- Two totally different leagues. You literally can't even compare this sack of dirt to that sack of dirt. 100% incomparable. So, unless you drive a lambo…

Moderately dressed man pulls out a CRISP $50 bill.
- President Grant says otherwise.

(Worker's eyes bulge out of her head)
Bad analogy all you had to say was 30% more money for 169% more read speed and future proofing.

If I'm planning to use SSD for external storage only, is this sufficient even though it doesn't have DRAM or something else I should be looking at?

I am soooo conflicted on stuff like this because I do not understand when/why the price is going to shift like crazy

6 months ago I could buy a reputable 700W PSU (EVGA 700 BQ) for $50. Good luck with that now
My advice, buy if you need or if its currently cheap enough to be a nice extra that you want. As soon as you buy stop looking for details, unless where you bought has a 30 day price match guarantee or something, because you inevitably will be disappointed that it got cheaper.

I bought a 1tb 970 evo plus a year ago for more than the 2tb are selling today, its just the way it works.

$9 more gets you a Western Digital Gen4 PCIe drive:
https://www.amazon.com/WD_BLACK-S...09QV692XY/
This Intel drive would probably have a longer time to failure, despite being rated lower. But unless you have some use case where you are constantly reading/writing data, how often to SSDs fail?
Just something to consider. But remember, your PC needs to be new enough to take advantage of Gen4.

like ppl have said, there are better deals when you consider all the specs.

Amazon also matched the price - actually beat it by a few cents:
$36.33 - https://www.amazon.com/Intel-Inte...B08X4Z4R1Y

Why would anyone care about the % difference rather than the actual dollar difference. Which is less than a big mac meal for two these days. PCs have 2 slots, MAYBE 3, the slots are too valuable to waste with QLC garbage that WILL bottleneck certain types of workloads.
Percent difference is only a factor if it's something you buy all the time, in bulk, or high cost items. If you had to build 1000 PCs then sure it would be a factor. But how many nvme drives does the average person, or even a techie, buy a year? The % is not a factor at all. You aren't exactly going through nvme drives like a family goes through toilet paper.
