The pricing keep falling, and I doubt this is the bottom just yet. We've seen it before, folks. What we're witnessing right now is called a deflationary spiral, which means that manufacturers, being under the pressure of not being able to meet their sales expectation, keep cutting their prices more and more. This often happens post inflation and causes a lot of distress to the markets. Financial markets usually get hit the most.

The only solution to drive this market even further down is to hold the mf line. I refuse to buy the garbage rtx 4080 for $1200 + tax, but I will gladly accept the offer for $500.

Embrace your current system for a bit longer and you will see how these companies will bend over backwards to sell you their stuff for pennies.

Absolutely. We went from famine to feast in just a few years. Probably over-production after the shortages. Wonder where the bottom will be?

Do these work in an external case? I tried a Samsung drive in my case and it didn't work but my old micron SSD works fine.
Your old Micron is probably plain M2, not NVME. Same form factor. Probably need a new case that is compatible with NVME.

Case was USB-C and listed as compatible with both M2 and (older gen?) NVME a couple years ago. Case may still be too old.

New Samsung is recognized but if I do anything more than browse files or transfer a few hundred MB it disappears from file explorer and the transfer fails.

Just another reminder that those of us that built a PC in 2020 made the absolute worst investment in PC building history.....

Sorry but if you don't want to explain at least in 2 lines, why post the half baked info?

Literally my next comment gives you context, all the info is already posted in various other comments before me and I was thanking them for posting it. AKA positive reinforcement. I didn't know i was required to regurgitate what's already been said when i do; for those that don't want to take the time to read from the beginning.

It's not called "plain M2", it's called "SATA M2" 😉

Well no one is "required" to post anything on public forums, it's just courtesy to at least add a line on top of "what" price you got it for something like "from Samsung website with 30% discount code" !

not complaining but can someone fill me in why ssd prices are going lower? i remember ssd prices were at all time high not too long ago
2023 has been a down year for PC sales. I wouldn't say it was driven by a market shift or inflation. I would say a lot of the down turn is just a pullback from WFH sales in 2020/21. Individuals and companies that bought PCs for WFH or tele-education that might have had upgrade cycles for 2023 pulled their upgrades forward back in 2020, so now those sales are missing from 2023.

Even though there are still chip shortages for things like cars, there's a limited market for the most advanced fabrication lines. In other words, the lines used to make the latest GPUs and memory are not used to make most of the chips on cars. Those chips are made on older lines that are fully depreciated.

Clonezilla [clonezilla.org] is free and I've been using it for years to do all of my cloning and imaging.
