I didn't know that. There's a thing called Flex Mode where you can run different sized modules in dual channel. The two modules will run in dual channel while the remainder of the larger module will run in single channel.

for a bit of clarification, say you have an 8 GB module and a 4 GB module installed. 4 GB of each module will operate in dual channel while the remaining 4 GB of the 8 GB module will run in single channel operation/speed. I didn't know this changed with DDR5

Edit: just looked it up. No difference with DDR5.
Flex technology still applies in this scenario
Bought the i9-12900h model with qhd 1tb ssd and rtx 3070ti for 988 after tax from bestbuy about a month ago for open box excellent. Think that was a much better deal
The fan was super loud during gaming, probably one of the noisiest laptops I've ever owned. Other than that, everything works great. You can upgrade only one stick of RAM and there's an extra M.2 SSD slot for an SSD upgrade.

Open box $729 available. Also what is up with people comparing $900-1k laptop? More expensive = more performance. Duh.

This. Loudest laptop I've heard, though the cooling is stellar as a result. I have the 3070ti model use noise cancelling headphones with it. If you're playing around other people or without noise cancelling headphones it can be a nuisance. Performance is great and worth the noise for me and of course when not playing it can run close to silent.

Is it the first gaming laptop you've heard? They all sound like jet engines when gaming it's not just this model.

Build quality is great. There are screen upgrades if you aren't digging the low resolution one it comes with.

Had mine for a year. Only real complaint is the rubberized coating they decided to apply on the lower chassis, it begins to peel. It's on the Intel models only.

I visited the store, $729 = without charger and machine only. The machine itself looks good though

A fine device for mobile gaming & productivity. Really puts Apple products in the same price range to shame. Mine has been around the world with me, has been used to mine ETH for over a year, and is still going strong.

Need a time machine for that. Also, I got the same model for $850 open box without tax (Florida) two months ago...

For noobs.

1. A Gaming Laptop's fan noise: Horrible. The fan noise is just like taking off a jet plane. Avoid any Gaming Laptops if you want to have quiet laptops.
2. 16GB (8GB + 8GB Soldered Dual Channel) DDR5 4800MHz RAM:
eg) Performance: 8GB + 8GB Soldered. Dual Channel > 16GB + 8GB(soldered), no Dual Channel. 8GB + 8GB Soldered > 32GB + 8GB Soldered, no Dual Channel.

It has a 3060. The 3060 is a 1080p card. The screen is also a laptop screen- so you definitely don't need a high-resolution screen anyway. It being a 1200p screen is just costing you frames for no real gain actually.

How do you select open box? I know it used to be under buying options but I'm not seeing that anymore on best buys website. not even just for this item specifically, but for all items I'm not seeing buying options, maybe they changed it?

Looks like their layout changed bit. Take a look at my screeshot (attached below), it shows the blue open box price link found on the right side of the page.
