Lol this is literally the opposite of reality. Unless you're a trim carpenter all you'll be doing on a miter saw is rough chopping to length. The table saw can do, with far more precision, the work of at least 8 different tools.

How does this compare to the Dewalt DWS780?

Edit: For those who care, apparently this saw doesn't come with a shadow light or laser.

From what I understand the Lowe's app and website were showing the deal prices originally at stores that had them, but it is no longer working. The price was incorrect on the app while I was in store buying mine and I got the discounted price

very frustrating. I have been wanting to buy this for months but can't stomach full retail price. I'm in Houston and can't seem to find (brickseeker) anywhere at this price
Same here. I found refurbished ones on ebay today, try there. Only a couple left when I grabbed one earlier

I've been working on building up a collection to start woodworking once the temps come down a bit. A miter saw's not been on the list due to space constraints, I was planning on using the dwe7491RS w/ a nice miter gauge instead but boy is this tempting knowing the glide's take up less space than a normal sliding saw.

For those of you that woodwork, what are your thoughts on just using a table saw vs grabbing one of these even if I may not really have the space? I honestly don't know how often I'll need the depth this can manage (was thinking maybe a 10" non sliding) but having it just in case is really drawing me in.
It really depends on what kind of woodworking you are trying to do. A table saw is great for repeatable cuts but it can be very cumbersome for cutting large sheet goods unless you have a good table surrounding the saw. A table saw really shines with small precision cuts where as a miter saw is not as precise but is much better for longer stock.

For anyone considering this, just know you can EASILY add a shadow line to this saw for under $20. There is a space in the front of the blade guard that an LED sewing light, with simple modifications, can fit right into. There are tutorials everywhere. If you have the confidence to do some DIY and make cuts on a miter saw, you should also easily be able to add the shadow line upgrade
I have the Delta miter saw that has two lasers, one on each side of the kerf, and it works absolutely amazing. With the mod you are talking about on this Bosch, can you set up a later on each side? You just mentioned one laser so wanted to make sure. I guess I don't know what the difference is between a dual laser and a shadow line (as I understood the shadow line to reflect the blade thickness for use on either side of the blade was the same as dual laser.)

Still $649 in the north denver metro area.
Went to the West Littleton and I had the person check the price and it showed $649 for her. Didn't try to ring it up though to see if there's a price difference.

There is no laser at all. There is a small LED light that mounts centered above the blade and shines light down onto the edge of the blade. This light shines down onto the workpiece leaving a shadow the exact thickness of whichever blade is installed on the workpiece that shows exactly where the blade will cut. Same idea as the dual laser, except it never needs to be adjusted for different blade thicknesses

Meh, give me a good bandsaw and a track saw and that table saw will just collect dust.

I went to the Littleton Colorado Lowes and attempted to checkout with the saw. Unfortunately it was still $650 for me.

Agree. They're great if you're doing construction or cross cutting a lot of long pieces, but the miter saw doesn't justify the shop room it takes up for me. Table saw is much more versatile.

This deal is no longer available. I did check my local Lowes, and they said the deal is not from Lowes, and hence they can't honor it. They had 7 in stock.

Got one of these at my local Lowe's in Central Texas! FWIW, my store had several table saws and miter saws on clearance.
Which stores in central TX? I am in Round Rock and checked the Lowes app/Brickseek and didn't see any. I would LOVE one of these saws.

I've located some but they are not on sale. Think it will take a few more days or they just won't go on sale?

Cool, thanks for the explanation. And one of these shadow LEDs can be easily set up on this Bosch saw? If so, I may try to hunt one down as I'm definitely used to the dual laser and being able to rely on it on my Delta.

Laser lines and shadow lines are kind of hard to understand the usefulness of. Just make your pencil mark and use your eye as you drop the blade down. After a few cuts you would know t even think twice. Definitely Bosch over DeWalt.
It's funny, when I started I just cut on the pencil line. Then I realized that sometimes I'd cut next to the line and sometimes I'd cut the line itself. Then I realized my pencil marks were inconsistent; I was marking the length, but I actually was marking was offset because the tip of the pencil was being offset from the straight edge by the conical pencil tip. So now I always mark it so the edge of the pencil line is the edge of the cut and what's left is the length I want.

So really, it's all about how hardcore you want to be about measuring. I mean you'd think it would be brain-dead simple, but like everything with woodworking it can get surprisingly complicated.

Yeah, just Google "adding shadow line to Bosch GCM12SD." Looks like it can be done for ~$20 and about an hour of time.
