Unless you have very very specific needs and like to tinker, or like the nvidia geforce gaming there are better options.
The shield can also do dolbyhd atmos.
I can't imagine paying for an overpriced fire stick just because its in cube form.
You are comparing a Tegra X1+ in the Shield which is a ARM Cortex-A57 quad-core (64-bit) that is NOT using the additional A53 quad-core to a ARM Cortex-A73 quad-core @ 2.2GHz + ARM Cortex-A53 quad-core @ 2.0GHz that is in the Cube. "Inferior hardware?" You should stop talking out your ass and read more.

Note that this 2019 model has the exact same model number as the 2017. The only way to tell is to hook it up and see if it has the AI upscaling. Mine have all been 2019s so far. But someone could try to swap a 2017 for a 2019. So double check any used shields purporting to be 2019s/

First, my initial impressions with the ai upscaling is that it's pretty bad. I've been watching a 1080p show, and I've been noticing a bunch of static appearing in the image. Finally went and looked at the files on my computer, and can't see anywhere near the signs of it in the original. Dropped the shield to play 1080p and it basically went away. Changed the upscaling to basic, and it also went away. Now, I'll admit that the problem was mainly in darker scenes that you could tell were borderline on the original too, but it was making it significantly worse.
Second issue I've had is that with dolby vision enabled, I keep getting drop-outs on the video. From searching, seems to be not all that uncommon. I could have marginal cables maybe? I haven't tried replacing those yet, but probably will. Turn dv off, and everything works fine. Course, that was the reason I'd swapped in the 2019 for the one I'd had there.
So I'm kinda mixed on it. It's still a very good device, and if you value a good quality audio system, I'm not sure there's another great option out there that lets you do pass through audio to your avr from things like plex. Not sure if the amazon devices have ever gotten there. But it's also definitely lacking in some things these days - like the ability to play youtube with hdr. I'd really like to see them come out with an updated version that handles some of the few shortcomings it has, which would put it back on top.
If you decide you want to sell it - I have $50
I've had my SHIELD for 5+ years. In the beginning, I used it for everything - retro gaming, Kodi with Real Debrid for downloads, Plex server, Kodi Matrix for watching videos, etc. I connected a fast Sandisk USB stick to expand the internal storage, a 4Tb external drive, and a wireless Azulle keyboard / mouse remote.
But over time, the SHIELD began to slow down. I couldn't download and watch videos at the same time without it glitching, it took a long time to refresh the video library, I had to restart the unit every time before watching a movie.
I began to move the functionalities off the SHIELD -- I no longer used it for gaming; I moved all my movies to a Synology NAS (that runs its own Plex server); I bought a used M1 Mac Mini for Kodi downloads *and* 4k streaming; I uninstalled every unused app; when I got a new TV instead of another SHIELD I got an Apple TV.
I still use the SHIELD, but it's only for watching videos on my NAS. The UI is okay but I wish the CPU is faster. For the money, I'll probably get another Apple TV or pick up a mini PC to use as a HTPC.
