$80 more than last night.
Be real...that was a price mistake that likely no one actually got.
Typically media storage, movies/shows/etc. Though a single external HDD of this size is asking for problems. This is a lot of data to have without redundancy.
Many people who buy these shuck them, taking the drive out to install in a NAS or server.

Regardless, if you do not know what what you would use it for then you do not need it.

Unless one is already a member you might as well get this instead: https://serverpartdeals.com/produ...hard-drive
I got one when they had them for $210; mine appears to be a new OEM drive originally destined for Facebook. Remember SPD doesn't charge tax in most states so that makes their pricing even better.

I greatly prefer 5400rpm drives vs 7200.

Thanks for sharing. I'm sure many don't mind the difference.

I like the helioseal drives but you're going to have a hard time convincing people to pay more (or similar amounts) for a refurb drive with wiped SMART data.
Still, serverpartdeals is always a possible option to think of. They're reputable at least.

Edit - These are new drives and I am wrong. Site didn't load correctly on my phone and I only saw the refurb options listed.

Sure, but that was an absurdly good deal (pricing mistake) that was destined to disappear nigh-instantaneously.
By the time I clicked the alert it was already dead, and I don't imagine many of those orders will ship.

You made a bad assumption!
It isn't a refurbished, recertified, or used drive -- it is a brand new drive from SPD. And it has a longer warranty than this external drive too.

I like the 5400rpm ones too because they run cooler, but I thought I read these WD externals now had 7200rpm drives. I know the 8TB Easystore I bought about 5 years spins at 5400rpm, and it runs notably cooler than the 7200rpm 5TB Toshiba X300 I bought the year before -- and cooler than the new 18TB WD Ultrastar I just bought.

You're correct. I don't think your 8TB Easystore is 5400rpm either. WD just says they're but they're not in reality -- what a time to be alive.

This only $10 more than what I spent on my 14 TB that I got a few years ago.
I had bought 2 of them at the time. Didn't think I'd see 18 TB drop this low. Since I've only seen the 14TB drop this low a few times in the last few years.

It looks like BB is honoring their mistake. I picked up mine in store. The deal only lasted 30 mins or so, in the middle of the night.

SMART data says the rpm is 5400, and like I said it runs considerably cooler than both my 7200rpm drives. The 8TBs sold today are probably 7200rpm now.
