Yamaha does charge a premium but these receiver models aren't competing.

The correlation of sound quality and cost is not linear. It's kinda like the law of diminishing returns - at some point, the increase in cost is probably not worth the minimal improvements gained. Everyone's "sweet spot" of bang for the buck will vary. Is stepping up from a
~$400 V6A to a $800 A4A going to give you twice as good sound improvement? Probably not. Doubling the price will most likely not double the sound improvement. The improvement can be somewhat subjective. To some, over the number of listening hours they use their receiver, the $500 premium may very well be justified.

Depends on your priorities, one stand out difference is Dirac Live RC, it's hands down better than YPAO. Granted you don't get the other have of Dirac(DLBC).

As you can see preference supercedes all this.

I had 7.1 home theater years ago and satisfied with it. Planning a great receiver to start on 5.1.2 and work my way up to 7.1.4 in 2024. On the fence with this one but still high to the budget approved by my wife.
I can get into a fight with her to pump the budget to $200 more, but do you think it's worth every penny?
Any improvement if I upgrade my current Denon AVR-X4000 to this Yamaha A4A? Most of my streaming movies are DD Plus Atmos 5.1.
Your prompt inputs would be much appreciated.

I expected people to say the yamaha model is a more premium model and it is.....but that's why I added the price difference. I don't doubt the yamaha is better built, more premium, more reliable, etc. But once you plug them into the same 7 speakers I'd argue the yamaha doesn't sound $500 better.

I'm by no means an expert but I own this receiver and I was surprised how much better it sounds than the more budget Yamaha receiver it replaced. I can't quantify than in dollars but I don't regret buying it. Way more clarity with the same speakers.

I have this receiver. It is great, but the boot up time is crazy slow. I've never had that be an issue with a receiver and this is probably my 8th?
