these newer enclosures open even more easily now. just put in lap and dig fingernails into both back opposite sides and firmly pull apart.

While a raid mirror is better than nothing, it is not a backup strategy. It only protects against a single drive failure. Things like lightning strikes, ransomware, etc, can and do take both drives out of commission and your data with them.

If you care about your data, follow the 3-2-1 backup strategy!

Never mind no Ethernet port
I plugged one into a wireless router and used it as an nas drive. Worked great. Just make sure the router has usb. I think I used a Netgear router.

I have a 10TB drive of this that I use to backup my PC / SLR photos but I'd like to save off my iPhone photos onto it as well (I currently have iPhone backup only to Google photos). Is there a way to auto backup my photos to a drive like this from my iPhone that is currently formatted for PC? I have an SLR camera which is what I have been backing up to the drive so far. Or is it best to just have a separate drive each for iPhone and PC ?

My thoughts exactly! I should be okay for about a year with my third 16TB version of this drive. But next year I'll be needing more storage for sure, so I'll be shopping for this or the 22TB variant with hopefully better pricing. But this is still the best price I've seen anywhere to date on this specific drive.

I remember paying $400 for my first 1TB drive and thinking it was huge. Those may have been better days in many ways, but certainly not for tech!

If you plug this into your router it can be used as a "cloud" storage device, or in layman's terms, simply network storage. Then yes, it can be configured as a one drive fits all use cases. But your router must of coarse have a spare USB port and be capable of this function, which most modern router are. But that's how I would do it.

Yeah, I paid $1800 for a 1GB.... people used to ask me how or why I would need THAT much space.... (I did as in the digital audio world), and it was glorious SCSI....

(and still works 30 years+ later!)
