This version is underpowered. So much so that it's price is diving.

Based on previous SD posts, almost everyone says to go for the extreme processor. It is worth the price and can handle majority of the games out currently.

Only if you're looking at it strictly from a hardware standpoint while ignoring the intended use of the device. This is like comparing a stationary exercise bike to a regular road bicycle.

No, not really. Not without power nearby.

You forgot about the ps5. PS portal is paper weight without it and internet.

Underpowered... Underpowered for what? AAA titles at 144fps? Every tool has a purpose and these and the Steam Decks are fantastic and versatile devices if you have proper expectations for performance on the go. I have heard that you should pony up for the Extreme version of the Ally though and ignore this one.

I prefer my Steam Deck OLED due to incredible battery life/barely noticable heat (unlike first version). Just waiting for the official Windows drivers so I can dual boot for tasks/titles that work better.

Regardless I'm having a great time playing the titles that are meant for a device like this.

I have this model. It's a great analog to the Steam Deck in regards to GPU power, although the Steam Deck may run things slightly faster because of the lower 800p native resolution (this has the same 1080p screen as the Z1 Extreme version).

Low/medium settings using FSR Performance keeps the framerates up, just like Steam Deck. If you're playing less demanding titles, like Dead Cells, Ori or Sea of Stars, they obviously run no problem maxed out.

If you want low spec games there's a Nintendo for that.

Make sure you get a beefy power bank, 65W and 25k mAh (or whatever capacity is flight approved). Even with that, you probably will only have maybe 5 to 6 hours of gaming. The battery life of the device isn't great. The Deck have much better battery life. I got the z1 extreme on launch day instead of a Deck thinking I would play multiplayer games (Windows can handles anti cheat) but I really just play single players with this. I would probably go for the steam deck if I had to choose again (the OLED model is very cool)

My boy gets close to 5 hours out of the switch before it needs charged. My steam deck barely got three, I doubt this is any better.
It's like the old saying from mechanics, you can have it fast, cheap and of good quality, but you can only pick 2.
Good graphics on the go is kind of a fools errand in my opinion. I ended up with my steam deck docked most of the time, playing emulators 😂

A mini PC was the right move for me. If you have a bus/train commute everyday, I totally get it. Playing PC games on the couch just didn't quite cut it.

I'm happy these exist though, id love to see this market explode

Isn't that for specific items like phones and cameras? I don't think this applies.

A side note, anyone know if this is good for genshin?

don't forget your portable monitor
The steam deck and this form factor in general looks so cool. But I cloud stream my Xbox games to my iPad and use my Xbox controller when I travel. Even on cellular connection latency is often good.

is this a better deal than the Steam Deck?
It's hard to answer. It depends on the service for software. Hopefully they offer some service in tweaking the interface. If they abandon it quick, the value goes away.

At this time, the downgrade from z1 extreme for this is not worth it. I would wait until a few more revisions. If u can wait. If not, aim for z1 extreme for $600 for best price-to-performance ratio. For z1, I dunno maybe $325-$350. $400 feels too high.

But wait.... Hear me out.... What if I put.... Flame stickers on it? That ups the gbs and wifis significantly.
You'd still need to download more ram to really max it out
