Now the smart people will take the extra $100 or $200 saved by buying this CPU and using that money to get a better GPU which is more important to gaming.
If you want to laugh, look at the scores in head to head gaming with the 5600 vs the 5700 or 5800 and smile when the FPS is less than 5% different.
As far as DDR4 vs DDR5. That is another win for saving some money. For gaming, that DDR5 will get you maybe another 5% fps but cost you almost double what DDR4 costs.
So save $100 on your ram and $100 or $200 on this chip and take that $200 or $300 and get a better GPU. Sure that $200 or $300 will get you an extra 10 percent in FPS but does it really matter if you get "only" 60fps vs 66fps (10% boost) or 120fps vs 132fps?
Now if money is not an issue then get the best of the best of the best but smart gamers know what is important and what is not.

BTW the x version is identical to the non-x (5600 vs 5600x) but it's clocked a bit higher. Something you can do yourself in your MB settings.
I say this as someone with a 5600x, but the 5600 wasnt released until 2 years later.
The 13100 can be used with DDR5 and you can upgrade to higher end 13th gen or 14th gen CPUs on the same motherboard.

If you already have AM4 now this is fine, but I absolutely wouldnt buy a motherboard to go along with this. You'd be better off getting a i3-13100F for $119 or i5-12400 for $139, giving you an upgrade path to far newer and better processors like the i7-14700k.

I went with this CPU at $120 and a full size atx board for $80. 32 gb 3600 mhz ddr4was about $50. So basically I'm all in for $250. Combined with my current 3060ti and I should be pretty happy. But I'm not your average picky PC gamer. I'm pretty happy playing on medium settings 1080p 😁
Edit: I saw your reply, and if you intend to keep your system as is for a long time, you made a great decision. Even cheaper than I thought it would be. Enjoy it, it will serve you well!
I have Ryzen 5 2600 still hehe. My games don't need fast computer.

Btw, I wouldn't recommend a 4 core CPU to anyone looking to build a system to play modern games. Given that the current gen consoles come with an 8 core AMD CPU, I'd be concerned with trying to get by with half the cores that devs are testing against as a baseline, especially for console focused games that get ported to PC in the years to come. The 13100f loses to the 5600 by 12% already: https://www.techspot.co
It loses to the 7600x, 7700x, 7900x, 13600k, 13700k, 13900k, etc, etc.
It's literally slower than like 20 CPUs now in gaming, and a lot slower in Multithread.

Here you'll see the 5800x3d is really just behind the 7800x3d, from a gaming perspective:

It only really falls behind on Starfield, where even the 7800x3d loses to Intel.
Also, these tests are all at 1080p, and anything running higher resolutions will still skew the results to higher cache chips.
