Ive only had the system deployed for 2 weeks, setup was a breeze, good wifi speeds, intuitive software but some features locked behind paywall. I prefer ASUS+merlin software when it comes to routers but figured id give these a whirl.
Edit: In my use case I don't think it'll make much difference to speed unless I get device with 2.5gb port.
I learned recently that the OnHub's can be flashed to DDWRT with some work. Quite a few steps but might be worth the trouble.
Ddwrt had not supported any new routers in the past couple of years. There's no router with AX with ddwrt support.
I'll take the high road here.
The switch goes downstream of your router (mesh device). Nothing goes between your modem and router.
Whatever lan port on the router you plug into the switch and you gain the remaining ports for lan connectivity.
Look for gigabit for the best price point and likely your needs. Some prefer metal. Tp-link has solid options for $14-20 depending on whether you want 5 port or 8 port. You can spend more and gain more ports and features. If you want wall mount some have that feature. If you don't know what a managed switch is, you dont need it, stick with unmanaged. I wouldn't buy anything from Tenda despite likely the cheapest. Disadvantages are requiring an additional power outlet, aesthetic.

I thought so too but it is completely different model and very comparable to X60/X55/X50 models.

Not sure why you're getting down voted. I have this model and they already aren't updating firmware. Its only getting security patches. Definitely going to get something that supports open-wrt next time.

Looks like no VPN client features on this one.
