i disagree with the above posters who think this isn't a good sign up bonus. this comes with a companion pass for a little over 12 months. so it all depends on how you'll use this.
Thirty thousand points for spending $4k is terrible. I got 75k points just two months ago. Anything less than 50k is not worth it and even that is on the low side. Wait if you can.
Edit: The companion pass is worth it if you plan to travel at least twice with a companion. The extra 45k points I got are worth ~$550.
Wish it was two years. This would be less than one year.

You could call up Chase and have them move some of your line of credit around. E.g. move 5k from Amazon or Saphire to Southwest.

ohh i didnt think of that. i'll call them today. all my cards bofa/chase etc all 15+.. this is the lowest i've ever been approved for when i carry a 0 balance and 840+ credit score. i think even my costco one was 9-10k

Chase might think you're brushing up against their total limit they want to give you

Possibly, they prob don't like that i hold 0 balances over the last 5+ years on both cards haha.
however i did learn what notslickatall was right. I was able to move limits from my amazon to the SW card. So i made them swap out 5k so now i can buy most of my flights for our family vacation coming up which easily covers the 4k and then some. i'll just have to hope they give the companion pass fairly quick so i can book the last 2 flights
I got this deal last year and used it three times. I think we saved ~$1,000 worth of airfare on those trips, so definitely worth it for me. I even rebooked two tickets we had already paid for before getting the companion pass once it was added to my account. Then we used that credit for two tickets on our next trip.

The companion pass gets added after your first statement (if you meet the $4K spend during that period). Depending on how time sensitive your booking is you can do what I did last year. I bought my tickets before getting the pass to guarantee the seats, then I canceled and rebooked the flights using the companion pass one it was added to my account. You'll get one of the tickets refunded as a SW credit, so as long as you know you will use it at some point it's an option.
Does the expiration date on this offer usually stick? Closing on a mortgage on 3/15 and don't want any inquiries before then…
Yeah, they usually don't extend these offers beyond the last date shown on the landing page. At least not online. You have nothing to lose by calling them a few days before and see if they'll make an exception though.
