I spray about 1/3 bottle of hydrogen peroxid($1 at most places) at the inside fins to clean any mold or bacteria issues. Frequency depends on how humid your environment is, but I do it once a month in Dallas, Texas during the months I use them. Dilute with water if you don't need it that strong.

I haven't had any mold issues with mine either. You just want to make sure and set the support bars so the unit is sloped just a degree or two downwards so that condensed water does in fact gravitate towards the outside, where it can drain. If you really want to, you can drill a hole or two in the bottom of the unit to assist with drainage, but I haven't had the need.

These units are so far superior to older AC technology.....it's an absolute game changer.

What I REALLY wish is that they would discount the units that have heat pump capability. I have two of them as well and would buy one more. It's amazing the amount of heat they can put out per watt, as compared to resistive space heaters.

I've got a 8000 BTU unit that I've been using for two summers and a 12000 BTU that I've had for one summer, and I think they're great. My central AC runs far, far less often, so my electricity bill had been noticeably lower despite the summers getting hotter.
It is predicted to be in the mid to upper 80's already next week down here in south Texas. I hope I don't have to install them already.
Mold? I didn't have any issues with that. On humid days, the AC can pull enough water out of the air that the water pools up in the outside portion of the AC. Some people would drill drain holes in the unit, but I just folded up a paper towel into a strip and tucked it between the fins and the case so it wicks the excess water out of the unit and into a bucket or onto a thirsty plant. Works great.

I have a 10,000 BTU unit from Amazon last year, with no mold problems at all. Runs great, really quiet.

I have this. The installation was straight forward, but in my case and it could just be my window, but it would periodically rattle too much because of the vibration. The sound of the rattling gets rather annoying. I think other than that it works decently well for cooling.

Also another thing to consider is that it could trip your breakers. my solution to this was to use an outlet that is not shared with other devices.

Can I place these on their side or do they make them for windows that slide sideways? thanks!
No, absolutely not. You cannot run ANY window AC unit on its side.

I have 4 of these (think 2 x 8ks and 2 x 12ks) and love them. They're so quiet and do a great job. I've had the 12ks for 2 and 3 years without any issues. I've had the 8ks for just over a year, again without issue. I got the 8ks for bedroom replacements. I love that they're wifi enabled and can connect to Alexa / Google.

Regarding how quiet they are... in our Livingroom, when the old air conditioner would turn on, we couldn't hear the TV. Now, except for a minor high pitch whine as it turns on, I don't hear it at all. In my office, I had the same issue where if I had a call, I couldn't have the AC on. Now, just like the Livingroom, I don't even know if it's on.
I know I've seen folks complain about high pitched noise from these, but I also only notice that when it first kicks on. Kind of a high pitched "wobbly" sound for a few moments.

I have an 8K one in the bedroom window, and it does not disturb my sleep.

Hypothetically you could oversize these to your room and it won't make a difference because the larger unit will just run like the smaller unit. Different than a normal window AC which if you size too large will cycle too frequently. That's my rudimentary understanding anyway.
Operation wise, yes these are fine to oversize. However, in practice the compressor and fan are still much louder on the 12k even when its running at lower settings.

I've had an 8k unit for a few years and grabbed a 12k unit for the bedroom last summer when Costco had them on sale. The 12k was oversized for the room, but the price was great so I grabbed it.

I could not stand how much louder the 12k unit was even when running on lower settings. I ended up returning it and getting another 8k.

This worked fine for a season, and then I got some error code over and over and it would just stop working, even their support couldn't tell me what it meant. But they could tell me it was out of warranty and I was out of luck. I had to give this away for free just to get rid of it, it has the new refrigerant that our sanitation won't take.

I think that's the main reason i bought mine at costco. Just incase mine breaks i could easily return. I figure the durability of these things could be a hit or miss. Gotta love costco's return policy.

Should I have this shipped to my local Home Depot (1 mile drive) instead of to my home? I've never had an AC shipped direct to home. I feel like it would have less of a chance to be damaged picking up in-store. Am I crazy?

No idea, but years ago I had a toilet delivered to a HD instead of home and it was busted. So was the next one. 3rd time was a charm.

I bought the 8,000 BTU model in 2021 for $350 and it has been fabulous. Once you close your window, you'll be amazed at much how quieter this unit is compared to the old window units.

Costco had the 12,000 BTU model for $280 last year: https://slickdeals.net/f/16812593-midea-12-000-btu-u-shaped-smart-inverter-window-air-conditioner-279-97-in-store-ymmv-costco?src=frontpage_recombee&prop=rcmid-526e95e87ef680e5554207624675ff4e and I ended up buying one and storing it in my basement because I was so impressed with the 8,000 BTU model.

$225 is a no-brainer.

I have this. It's super weak. If you have a small room, go for it.

The one I have was shipped to my home. Some exterior scuffing/marks on the box but there is a lot of protection in there. You should be fine shipping it to your home.

Good to know. I would love one of these for my bedroom except my oldschool 10K unit produces the absolute perfect white noise I need to drown out neighborhood noise. Maybe if I invest in a good white noise machine I might still come out ahead with one of these.
