I spray about 1/3 bottle of hydrogen peroxid($1 at most places) at the inside fins to clean any mold or bacteria issues. Frequency depends on how humid your environment is, but I do it once a month in Dallas, Texas during the months I use them. Dilute with water if you don't need it that strong.

I haven't had any mold issues with mine either. You just want to make sure and set the support bars so the unit is sloped just a degree or two downwards so that condensed water does in fact gravitate towards the outside, where it can drain. If you really want to, you can drill a hole or two in the bottom of the unit to assist with drainage, but I haven't had the need.

These units are so far superior to older AC technology.....it's an absolute game changer.

What I REALLY wish is that they would discount the units that have heat pump capability. I have two of them as well and would buy one more. It's amazing the amount of heat they can put out per watt, as compared to resistive space heaters.

I've got a 8000 BTU unit that I've been using for two summers and a 12000 BTU that I've had for one summer, and I think they're great. My central AC runs far, far less often, so my electricity bill had been noticeably lower despite the summers getting hotter.
It is predicted to be in the mid to upper 80's already next week down here in south Texas. I hope I don't have to install them already.
Mold? I didn't have any issues with that. On humid days, the AC can pull enough water out of the air that the water pools up in the outside portion of the AC. Some people would drill drain holes in the unit, but I just folded up a paper towel into a strip and tucked it between the fins and the case so it wicks the excess water out of the unit and into a bucket or onto a thirsty plant. Works great.

I have been looking for one that has an heat pump option, what ones do you have? Thank you.
Very few options in a U style especially at affordable pricing. I have the 8000 I would love one with heat pump! I sent an email to Midea simply stating my want and they responded with nonsense..

Getting one of these for the game room. I'm nearly maxing the breaker now so one of these is perfect. Super low wattage.

Anyone able to confirm if a 2000 watt generator will run the 12k btu unit? Generator is 2k watt with 1600 watt continuous. I know the 8k btu would be fine.
It should, The highest I saw my 12k was 13 amps.

200W seems quite low. The specs at homedepot.com say 1140W which is more in line with I'd expect at 12k BTU.
This is my Sense meter which I can tell you is very accurate. The 491W in Other is a few lights on in the house and the Midea 12k running right now. "Always on" is my computers and devices it detects "always" and groups them together. I was shocked at how little energy use this AC uses. I know when my central air comes on it shows 2,500-3,500W with the blower and condenser. I told my wife if she wants it at 65 I'd have no problem!

Attachment 15020125

The graph below shows when the A/C turned on at 8:45pm by the scheduler app and jumped a little over 200W. It was a cool day and the room started at about 72 and dropped to 69 in about 5 minutes. The fan slowed down (see the drop where it says -148W) and will continue to cool the room to about 67.5.

Thank you. Looks like I will have to go with a standard window unit. I'm installing it on my houseboat and it essentially mounts into the wall/window slot. Would have to use a couple pieces of plexiglass to substitute where the window would fill the slot of the unit.

Noob question. Must these be attached to the window? Or can I simply leave it on the floor inside the room?

Should I have this shipped to my local Home Depot (1 mile drive) instead of to my home? I've never had an AC shipped direct to home. I feel like it would have less of a chance to be damaged picking up in-store. Am I crazy?
I did the same thing. I am close to my store but no you're not crazy, I'm going to pick up myself. Especially under 70 lb may be a one person delivery service so idk.

I've yet to see a u-shape with heat.

The one with heat I was able to snag 2 years back was this guy

It was only $280 in 2022, wish I had seen that deal. I like their u-shape air conditioner a lot, very efficient.

ACs take hot air from inside the building and vents it outside. Putting this AC in the middle of a room will cause a net increase in temperature in the room.

I was able to do a Lowe's website price match chat with customer service and it was approved. I rather get it from Lowe's because I have plenty of giftcards for Lowe's at 10-20% off. In case anyone has Lowe's cards and willing to jump through this hoop to save more.

there are different modes on this mini splits. If you put it on high it'll go full blast and hit 1200 watts then slowly go down between 400 to 900 watts. There's an eco mode that everybody uses. In eco mode it starts at 200 watts and slowly ramps up to 700 to 1200 watts depending on the outside temps. Once the inside temp drops enough the unit will run between 150 to 500 watts and keep a stable temp.
That's why everyone likes these units, they sip energy energy all day where old AC's cycle between full blast and off. you can look it up on youtube.

What happens if you don't let them sit for a couple of hours before trying to run them? Is it bad for it?
Essentially, the condensed refridgerant gets spashed around in motion and it should be left to settle so you don't have air pockets that could cause cavitation in the compressor pump.

If you're in a dry area, not really; if you're in a chronically damp area you'll chill the room too quick without removing enough of the humidity, leaving it clammy.
There's arguments about the wear effects of short-cycling the compressor, which can be valid if you're way way oversized. This is a little less of an issue with the inverter driven units, which can somewhat throttle down.

The variable-ness is usually overstated, as a key parameter of phase-change cooling is the orifice size between high and low pressure. At most, these sometimes have a pair, maybe three orifices that are selected via valves. This basically results in a 2-speed or 3-speed system (A lot of heat pumps have HI-LOW modes).

Should be fine. I do the same thing with no issues.
