I would recommend the G14 since I recently bought one myself, and I managed to upgrade the RAM to 64 GB using a 48 GB stick of "non-binary" RAM (16 GB soldered + 48 GB DDR5) from here [amazon.com]. The laptop also has amazing linux gaming support, and runs pretty quiet. I also liked the fact that the webcam is 1080p and supports Windows Hello through IR. The build is pretty solid, and the speakers are awesome as well. I had a 16 GB lenovo with soldered LPDDR RAM and quickly hit the RAM limits, so regretted buying it in the first place. I would personally recommend this one due to it's expansion possibilities, and especially if you do coding + gaming on a regular basis. The display is also plenty bright at 500 nits, and it looks great in sunlight (it also has a matte finish that is anti reflective, which helps diffuse bright light sources behind me).

In case you do plan to run linux on this laptop, check out the helpful linux gaming community here:

The G13 that was $850 has a Ryzen 7 7735HS. The 3 in that 3rd digit means Zen 3. The $999 model has a Ryzen 9 7940HS, which is Zen 4. The Zen 4 CPU and 4060 GPU in this model are significantly better than the Zen 3 and 4050, so well worth the $150 difference.

RAM on G14 is expandable to 48GB where as the Acer is soldered on and not expandable.

I like ROG. The real question was : Ryzen 7 or 9? Same laptop with Ryzen 7 was going for about 150$ less (still going I think..). The 7 vs 9 performance is pretty close (esp for gaming as msot games dont utilize many cpu cores).

I bought it a month ago too. Using g-helper , I can get power drain of roughly between 5 to 10W (depending on tasks run), giving me very roughly about 10 hrs of battery, I have undervolt-ed CPU to -15
Mine is completely my fault. I unplug it for a few minutes to walk away and forget and an hour or two later it's like "Hey, I'm dying" and I'm like... shit. I didn't have a gaming laptop before so it was a bit of a surprise. And I havent actually tried to improve it since it's only been a couple of times and not expected.

R7 model has the 4050, which will have less performance and VRAM than the 4060, so it really depends on personal preference in what games you're playing etc.

Best Buy has it listed as a 720P front-facing camera. Do we know for sure if it's 1080 or 720?
I bought it from Best Buy, and can confirm that it's 1080p. In linux, you might see 2 cameras listed (USB 2.0 FHD UVC Webcam). That's because the one with "F" at the end is the regular full HD (1080p) camera and the one with the "I" is the infrared camera. I use linux-enable-ir-emitter to combine them for "Howdy" face authentication on linux. I've used the FHD camera successfully at 1080p on zoom and teams as well

I'm literally swimming in laptops right now. I ordered an open box Good for $820. As great as my OLED slim 14 is, for $820 I can't resist.
I notice they have Fair, Good, and Excellent for $800, $820, and $840 respectively, so I'm just curious why you chose Good and not the Excellent for $20 more. I'm assuming the Fair version is missing some stuff, but these prices are so close together that it seems hard to choose.

If you are not a gamer, this is not for you!!! Although it handles everyday tasks very easily, compromises on size factor(width), power consumption and the thermals are huge.

Otherwise great device and great deal.

Bought one for my wife last Christmas. My complaints are the gritty texture of the laptop in the wrist area, the trackpad became spongey and noisey (according to the internet it's loose and can be diy fixed), and when you charge with USB-C, the laptop screen constantly flickers between "plugged-in" and "power delivery" states making it unsuable.
