How to Fix an SD Card that is Stuck in Read Only Mode
https://7datarecovery.c
Now, I did notice a lot of people having problem with this card the last couple of months. But hard to know how much research they did. Or how good of a researcher they are. Provide Links from YouTube, google, reddit, Samsung, or message them. Thanks
I'm telling you if I get this problem, I will really research it, and talk to tech dept at samsung, and find reddit forum room to discuss this. I will find anything on YOUTUBE on this samsung issue. I dig deep!
p.s. I did talk about some issues that couldcause this problem, like recording video where the sd card can't keep up, and freezes, or playing a game from the card and it freezes. Or other issues, I personally would like to know what to avoid doing with this card, so I don't get that error. People are putting this in all types of devices and doing all types of stuff, we just got to figure out what corrupts the card , that then puts it in READ ONLY mode. The LINK I provided seems like VERY ADVANCED STEPS that a newbie wouldn't think of trying... if you have a card that is "READ ONLY", try those steps and report back, but only if you still have the card, because you have skin in the game.
To be very clear, I use microSD cards in smartphones, chromebooks, fire TV sticks and hd 8/10's. No problems. mostly media, movies, music, audio books, ebooks. Simple stuff, no gaming. Again no problems. But if I was to use these cards in cameras, security cams, gaming, I would have to make sure my microSD can handle it and check with others FIRST.

What causes the issue may relate to how the card's being used, or it may simply be the result of a faulty card. Simply recording video at a rate that the card can't keep up with is unlikely to be a cause. It will not accept more data than it can handle. However, it may cause the host device to have issues. Gaming and general file storage are also unlikely to be a problem.
There are two main things I think are more likely to be an external cause. One is using the card in a write-heavy application, like a security camera. Those should always use high endurance cards. In fact, using this card in that application will likely void the warranty. The other is disconnecting the card during I/O activity. Cutting power to flash media, while active (especially writing) can be very problematic. It's especially likely to be an issue with SD cards, as they lack power loss protection. Separately, this situation can also result in filesystem level corruption. This is why it's a very good idea to properly unmount ("safely eject") the card/drive, or properly power down the host device, before removing the card. Faulty readers or host devices are also another possibility.
You're right, without seeing the suggestions in those links, the average person likely would not think to try those methods. However, I'm not sure I'd go so far as to call them "very advanced steps." To me, that would be messing around at a firmware or raw flash level. Anyway, I hope you find my suggestions useful. I do do a fair bit of research into various storage devices/technologies but I definitely don't claim to know everything.
My claim does not contradict anything in your link. I said:
The fixes mentioned in that (and many other) links deal with external issues. Those are mostly issues with the filesystem, OS, card reader, etc. If the card's internal controller flips it read-only, that's a sign of a hardware issue. You don't have to believe me. In fact, I would encourage you to research the issue. Just a warning, YouTube and Reddit are not inherently reliable sources. Anyone can go on them and make any claims they like. There's a lot of bad info on both.

... thanks for posting all your research, and explaining it more fully.
Now, does this card need to be re-called. It seems a number of people that last few months do have problems with this card. Did one of your cards get the "read only" error. If you did, when did it happen , what were you doing, what device, what app?
If you did get this "error", would you consider discussing this with Samsung tech? If it is controller error, and can NOT be fixed, what does Samsung suggest people do, and maybe ask if lots of people get this error, how can they "fix" this, or ask under what conditions does Samsung see this "error" comes up. Maybe add WARNING to not use this card on XYZ device, or in certain apps.
Is "error" limited to this 512GB model, does it happen with the 256GB model?
I don't have the problem YET, I only got the 4x516gb a few days ago. I will be very careful using them, and just copy movies/videos/mp3's on them using my PC. Keep us UPDATED on this issue.
P.S. I wonder if the FIRMWARE on this card can "FIX" this issue.
Also, go to amazon's site, and find the purchase ... and follow the directions on "get product support", lots of topic and how-to stuff. Have you tried the trouble-shooting suggestions on the different topics: Here is just one topic :
Card reader issues
Restart the computer
Power OFF your computer by selecting the Shutdown option from the Start menu.
Wait for a few seconds after the computer shuts down completely.
Power ON the computer by pressing the Power button.
Note: A restart can help resolve temporary software glitches that might be causing the card reader to malfunction.
Check the micro SD card and card reader connection
Remove the micro SD card from the card reader.
Inspect the micro SD card and the card reader for any physical damage or debris.
Clean the micro SD card's contacts gently with a soft, dry cloth.
Reinsert the micro SD card into the card reader, ensuring it is properly aligned and securely inserted.
Note: Confirm the card clicks into place, indicating it is securely connected.
Try a different micro SD card
Remove the current micro SD card from the card reader.
Insert a different micro SD card into the card reader to check if it is recognized.
Note: This step helps determine if the issue is with the original micro SD card or the card reader itself.
Use a different card reader or USB port
Connect the card reader to a different USB port on your computer.
Note: Prefer using a USB port directly on the computer rather than through a hub, as this can affect connectivity.
If available, try using a different card reader to see if the issue persists.
Note: This helps identify if the problem is related to the specific card reader or USB port.
Update card reader drivers
Open the Device Manager on your computer.
Locate the card reader under the list of devices and right click on it.
Select the option to update the driver and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process.
Note: An outdated or corrupt driver can cause the card reader to not function properly. Updating the driver can resolve these issues.
Check the micro SD card format
Insert the micro SD card into a device that recognizes it, such as a camera or another computer.
Check the file system format of the micro SD card to ensure it is compatible with your computer (e.g., FAT32, exFAT).
Note: Some older card readers may not support newer file systems like exFAT. Formatting the card to a compatible file system might resolve the issue, but be aware that formatting will erase all data on the card.
Disable and reenable the card reader
Open the Device Manager on your computer.
Locate the card reader in the list of devices, right click on it, and select "Disable device".
Wait a few seconds, then right click on the card reader again and select "Enable device".
Note: This can reset the card reader and resolve any conflicts it might be having with the computer's operating system.

I just went through the thread and YOU NEVER SAID you had this READ ONLY error at all. And I stated I just got 4 of them the last week and NEVER had this READ ONLY error.
We both NEVER did, at least in this thread.
Why do you even know if it is "fixable". You don't know! You kept saying it can NEVER be fixed. You personally don't know that , and either do I. This Samsung has a good graph.
Customer reviews
4.7 out of 5 stars
78,489 global ratings
5 star 84%
4 star 10%
3 star 3%
2 star 1%
1 star 3%
that is excellent user review rating. And plenty of people are giving this card 5-4 star rating of 94 percent with 78,000 global ratings.
I was thinking , "oh MWink , must have had this "read only" error and he researched problem.
Now, if the problem was massive this card would have 50 percent rating, ... we both KNOW that every product on amazon has a few people that give 1 star reviews ... of generally 3 percent , if it has around 94 percent 5-4 star rating.
I gave LINK to fix this problem, and how can you say " NOTHING WILL FIX this issue". Samsung doesn't say it, if in the FUTURE YOU get this issue, I would hope you would try all the suggestions to fix it before writing "NOTHING will fix this issue".
Your first post just said you researched it and "read only" issue can't be fixed. You never gave LINK or anything.
Now, maybe it can't be fixed, but maybe it is fixable ..... and obvious 94 percent of the User Reviews (5,4 star reviews) say the card works for them.
... in the past I have gotten "fakes" from amazon shipped and sold stuff . The Samsung app is called "Samsung Magician" and it checks SSD's and other stuff.

Bringing up buyer satisfaction, or even incidence rates, are completely irrelevant to what I am discussing. Whether it happens 0.001%, 10%, or 100% of the time doesn't inherently affect how you deal with a particular failure. However, it probably should affect purchasing decisions. I'll also note that user reviews aren't always a great metric. Bad reviews can come from user error, unrealistic expectations, or issues completely unrelated to the product (like fulfillment issues). Undeservedly good ratings can result from promotions (free products, etc.), people who haven't actually bothered to use the product yet, unjustified removal of bad reviews, and so on. There's also the fact that many items on Amazon share the same listing, and some outlast potentially multiple revisions of a product. I generally suggest examining the content of recent reviews, for the specific model. By the way, even some especially unreliable products, with known defects, often maintain a health looking star rating. For example, the original variant of the Samsung 870 EVO.
For the record, I never made any claim one way or the other, about the reliability of the 512GB Samsung EVO Select MicroSD card.
Also, it's worth noting that this would only be relevant if there is a widespread issue with these cards. To be clear, I am not making such a claim.

No, not one of this model.
I wouldn't bother. Modern companies will almost never discuss the details I would be interested in. They will simply cite things like "trade secrets."
I'm almost certain they would suggest replacing the card under warranty. I can not imagine them answering if lots of people get the error. This could open them up to litigation. They would likely not acknowledge the issue, until they have some sort of fix or other method to resolve it.
I believe there are already warnings about not using them with things like security cameras.
I don't know if it would be possible, however I don't think I've ever seen a firmware update for an SD card.
Also, it's worth noting that this would only be relevant if there is a widespread issue with these cards. To be clear, I am not making such a claim.
I'm just glad I could buy a 25 dollar 516gb microSD card, and mostly use it in chromebooks, and smartphones, for media consumption.
Hopefully we will have fun discussions on other stuff on SD. Peace!
Do you own this 516gb samsung card and would you recommend it , or do you have a brand you recommend, that you yourself use?

As for other brands, SanDisk is the one I've seen fail the most. However, this may be partially offset by the fact that they're easily the second most frequent brand I encounter, after Samsung. Other brands can be hit or miss. I have had poor experiences with some Team Group flash media. I am also wary of other low tier brands, like Silicon Power.
I would highly recommend avoiding no-name brands, which you see all too often on sites like Amazon and Newegg. If their capacity isn't an outright lie, they're still probably garbage grade. The shocking part is many of these outright fraudulent cards/drives have generally positive reviews. I did a bit of a dive into it, after receiving a promotional email from Newegg, advertising a 2TB flash drive for $30 (2 years ago). On their site, the product had good reviews. It wasn't until I dug into the seller's rating that I found a few people complaining and offering evidence the drives were showing a fake capacity.
I generally stick to Samsung MicroSD cards because of their price, performance, and past experiences with them. Of course, I realize they too will likely have issues here or there. I usually only buy cheaper brands for really unimportant things, like if I'm going to be giving them away or if I want to test them out of curiosity.
