Looking to bite on QM8 but trying to weigh options on BB vs Amazon regarding warranties. Any recommendations? 4yr asurion seems to be least expensive but are ya getting what ya paid for with it?
The warranty at BB, IMO, is probably the best of the bunch, and they charge a premium since they cover OLED burn-in (even though it's less of a thing than it used to be) which you won't need with this TV. Also, with BB only having a 15 day return policy, I only purchase TVs from them during the Holidays, when they have an extended return period. If I was in the market for this TV, I would probably go with Amazon w/ warranty, or Walmart (they matched the Amazon $1698). Even though they charge $50 freight, with the Walmart/Allstate Protection (4 yrs @ $104 or 5 yrs @ $129) it still nets less than Amazon's price w/ warranty. https://www.walmart.com/ip/TCL-85-Class-Q-4K-Mini-LED-QLED-120Hz-Local-Dimming-Dolby-Vision-HDR-Atmo...[walmart.com]

The Best Buy program is one of the best programs I have ever seen...I have had a couple of claims over the last 5-6 years. In both cases they gave me the full purchase price of the TV back...via Best Buy gift card...due to falling prices in TV's I was able to grab a bigger Tv for the same amount I paid 2-3 years before

Thanks, great reply!! I went with Amazon for delivery to choice room (2nd floor) and 4 yr warranty along with 5% back using Amazon credit card. Hoping it doesn't bite me later. It arrives tomorrow!! I have a 65" TCL R646 I snagged from BB Nov '22 for $599 and love it! Hoping this new one does me good! It'll be replacing a 73" Mitsubishi DLP from 2010 (more and more dots appearing on the screen by the day). Grr, now I need 4K passthrough receivers for both of em 🥴. Thankfully my 2 sets of Energy speakers are still going strong! Thanks again, everyone.
last note: been eyeing this one for a while and it's the least expensive I've seen yet. How much farther do you think it'll go? I bit at this price. Curious what folks think. I'm a glutton for punishment...
My opinion.... Stay away from TCL. My first developed multiple fine line cracks all over the screen and wifi issues.... Fluke? Purchased another model.... Dozens of failed pixels all over the screen after a short period. Not getting 3 strikes from me.
I'm a tech integrator in the field and install hundreds of displays each year among many other pieces of equipment. Without doubt the most failed TVs I replace are Samsung and LG. Almost all fail from power supply issues or backlighting failures.
I do not have many TCL failures from the 3 Series all the way up to the newer generations. With that being said, I will always advise to go with the 5-Series and up of the older equipment or the Q6 and up from the new equipment for better, brighter picture performance.
In the end, ALL BRANDS make entry level displays that are of low quality and low performance and have unnecessarily higher failure rates.
gosh, I finally decided on the Sony X90L over the QM8, then this happens. QM8 pulls ahead at this price.
TCL 98" for $1999 with free mounting from Best Buy could be a surprise choice also.

TV has been great thus far. No complaints. Picture is astounding and, yes, it can get bright. I use fire stick (side load apps) so I can't speak much to UI, but it did seem snappy when initially setting things up. My Nov 22 TCL R646 is still going strong too. I used to mock the brand, but have been happy with both purchases. I'm getting older and valuing value/performance in lieu of Samsung/Sony emblems. I'd recommend it to anyone that's happy near this price point.
I bought this from BB recently and was able to get another $100 off by price matching with PC Richard (it was via chat after I had it delivered). Luckily, the rep didn't notice the delivery fee

Having had numerous TCL TVs I would absolutely stay away from the 4 series, the 5 series would be the lowest model I'd ever consider.
Two different 4 series developed awful dead spots, all of the 6 series TVs I've ever had work just fine.
