A heads up: If you abuse buying discounted phones and activating then immediately canceling AT&T service too often, you will eventually be banned by AT&T from activating service anymore.

Believe it or not, that type of gaming is tracked and no one will be able to fix that for you.

Ex-AT&T employee.

PS: If you don't care, that's fine. But If you do, then you should be aware of this and pick your deals carefully.

The Ultra/256gb unlocked is $421, no need to go thru all the cancellation hassle , better deal imo.

they are dropping 50 every two weeks. I would wait, these phones are not selling like hotcakes. I considered s24 ultra during googlefi launch promo and rolled back because the price is too steep to what it has to offer. I expect the s23 to drop in price till they clear the inventory.
Also s24 have similar att offers through best buy for +$100 to $150

I'm not sure if BB will have stock but they did have stock for s22 earlier this year so take it for what's it worth. You can request unlock after 60 days (according to the ATT policy it's irrespective of you are a current customer or not)
Don't they require 60 days of active service meaning you end up with a brick unless you spend another $200 on activation fee and two months worth of their ridiculously overpriced plan?

Not really, according to third bullet points from https://www.att.com/support/artic...KM1262649/ you have to wait, not be active. Although I don't have anybody confirmed this works yet. For VZW many confirmed Android phones are unlocked after 60 days but I think that's an automatic process whereas for ATT you will have to use the unlock website/CS

Question is, do they consider the device fully paid off?

Called to cancel the line. CSR was very pleasant. Asked why I was cancelling. Told her I no longer needed a 2nd line. Got confirmation email. Will wait for final bill for dispute and what not. Tried making a call with the AT&T sim, got "Your phone's not registered on a network" message.

Was able to flash my S23+ as well. Once you have the file and app downloaded, it's smooth sailing. Youtube videos are helpful. I did a clean flash. Left the USERDATA line empty. Took about 8 mins. No more annoying AT&T logo or their chime. Noticed that the internal storage usage went from 16% to 9% after getting rid of AT&T crap.

Yes that's for sure. You are paying this phone upfront. I just don't know how the unlock system/CS behaves. I always unlocked it right away using SIM swap

I signed up for the lowest price Tello plan for $5/month with free Esim. Ported out immediately and canceled the plan once I got the phone. You can also use Google voice but I'm not 100% sure of the details.

So I did end up getting a $90+ bill after the customer service rep told me I had a $0 balance when I cancelled the line 🀣

Got the activation fee waved automatically with the "I don't recognize this fee" link. Chatted with CS and got a $45 credit on top of the activation fee waved. Ended up paying $5 and change to close out the final bill for 3 days of service.

Definitely worth the hassle for all this. S23 has been on my want list for a long time. It's only slightly larger than the S10E I retired. Personally not a fan of huger screens for my daily driver but still want flagship performance. This checks all my boxes.

facing the same. the account page shows the Unlocked S10 for the new line on device info but the Profile --> People and Permissions --> People and devices still shows S23 for the new line. Planning to cancel the new line n request for unlock code after 2 months.
Hey did you figure out a solution ? It seems that few people are facing issues with instant unlock

Tried unlocking again, after 24 hours, but the same 60 days msg and to try again in 30 days due to too many unlock attempts. This sucks. Now contemplating ebay unlock codes or unlocker websites. If not, then maybe try switching to $30+taxes prepaid plan. Found few at eBay for less than $10, and unlocker websites, cheapest being mobileunlocks.com at $15. Not sure if they also require 60 days active ATT line before successful unlock.

Anyone tried getting their locked phone unlocked successfully via paid third parties?

No, after speaking to several agents, and several unlock attempts, I decided to cancel the service and get prepaid for at least 2 months just for that 60 days wait. Agent transferred to Loyalty and very easily cancelled the service and I'm told my service was activated the day I ordered phone from BestBuy website, so technically today is the 4th day and hence I'll have to pay activation. No exceptions could be made (agent pretended to ask supervisor though I could clearly hear no such conversation). + She mentioned I won't be billed for the 3+ days I was active for. My account shows no bill and no payment due yet. Planning to dispute activation fees when I get the bill.

Then I went to prepaid website and bought myself the $50 unlimited (3mbps max - 1.5mbps reduced) and with autopay and taxes, paid $41.XX. Previous 2 agents confirmed via text and chat that Id still be eligible for unlock after 60 with the new prepaid plans as well. Tried speed test and then some youtube videos, seems fine to me for my basic browsing and 480p runs fine, no buffering at all. 720 and 1080p seems to buffer a bit every now and then. Not downloading anything big. For my use case, seems OK. Maybe I'll change my mind after few days or use.

You can try getting a Google voice number, see https://support.google.com/voice/...5667?hl=en for how to unlock the number to be ported out to ATT.
