I know this is slickdeals, but I feel like its not worth it to be as cheap as possible with lighting, unless its an actual slick deal and the light has very high CRI and is a great price.

I had at one point bought a set of mercury bulbs and then half of them were out of range to even connect to the wifi. So that was a waste. And the app was terrible anyway. I'm not even sure I could sync that one to music either.
Different styles friend. Mine is normally $100 (69 for Me) an lights up the studio an I keep it dimmed to like 30%. It divides 65ft at halfway to make sure each 32 ft length isn't dim at the end. an also it has more leds per foot than the $9/(30) one. I also have rgb/w because I need white to do work/daily life. For 69$ I'm not mad at mine. But doing the research you are correct on this strip. That's why I got the 65ft rgb/w.
The only time you definitely need to use your phone is for the music function which requires a Bluetooth connection, even with Wi-Fi govee lights, and at least in android the app to be in the foreground with the screen turned on.

If you're referencing the FEIT color chasing strand, many differences. Costco ones are rated for outdoors (clear "gel" covering), have two dedicated white diodes (true whites instead of emulated through RGB) and are segmented to be individually addressable (not each diode, but groups of diodes so you can do multi-color effects). FEIT are also 24v as opposed to these which are likely 12v?
