I only use this if I'm in the mood for charcoal cooking or smoking. it takes time to use the chimney and get to temp (especially if you're using a lite amount of coal because this is designed to hold a temp). I normally use a propane grill with smoke box because it's a tons faster to use for frequent cooks.

Which oil do you recommend using?

Then I picked up a small tube of high-temp RTV sealant and ran it around the gap where the top damper meets the main body top. I also removed the bottom slide damper, removed the factor sealant, and ran a small bead of the same RTV around its perimeter.
These steps pretty much guarantee the only airflow in and out of the smoker is via what you dictate with the upper and lower dampers. You can really dial those temps in.

If it is left outside make sure it has a cover and REMOVE THE ASH PAN.
That ash pan will pool any water that gets in. I'd leave it disconnected unless cooking.
