it's that the ethernet connection from the monitor will pass through usb-c to the laptop, so it gives the laptop a hard wired internet connection when plugged into the monitor
Ips, Ethernet, 90w usb c; this hits all points for productivity! Gaming will suffer due to 60Hz (you really want >= 120hz) but otherwise solid monitor for a new price
It also has built-in speakers. Plus 3yrs warranty. Excellent deal.

Anyone else has trouble getting the USB hub to work?
I tried a few laptops with USB-C port. None works. In Device Manager, it says "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).
I also tried on a desktop with USB-B cable connected, same error in Device Manager. I searched online but none of the solutions works for me.
Wonder if my monitor has defect?

Try a different USB-C cable (needs to be both data and charging capable USB-C cable)?

For Mac users who find this thread later :

The built-in LAN uses Realtek RTL8153 v31, which loads the old AppleUserECM drivers on OSX. This driver is buggy and it will cause intermittent failures on the built-in ethernet. It may look "green" in system settings but it will not respond to any terminal commands like ping.

I bought a separate USB Lan dongle using a RTL8157B chip, and plugged that into one of the monitor's USB ports. This allows me to keep the single-cable USB-C to my laptop, and still have reliable hardwired LAN.

Thanks for the suggestion. I used the USB-C cable came with the monitor. It charges and extends my laptop display w/o issues.
The fact that i got the same error using the USB-B connection made me think something is wrong. For USB-B connection, I did try 3 different cables.
I can try a different USB-C cable later. If it still gives me the same error, i guess I would return or exchange. It's inconvenient for using with different laptops w/o the USB hub.

I could be wrong, but my experience with dock monitors is you use just ONE cable. The USB-C cable is all you need to do video, charging and extend the USB from the laptop to the USB ports on the monitor.

By using two USB cables, you could be causing some sort of fault that is giving you the issue you are having.

I've use a few Dell monitors with full dock built in and just use ONLY the USB-C cable for full functionality.

Interesting, because theproduct page [lg.com] on LG's site for this monitor says its compatible with Mac devices. It's disconcerting to know that it does not work with Mac devices.

i missed that... thank you for your input.
For my laptop, i only used USB-C. I tried 3 different USB-B cables for my older desktop which doesn't have USB-C port.
I am gonna try to setup the USB-B to desktop USB-A next. hopefully the unknow usb device on desktop will also be resolved.

You have to use the USB-C cable that came with the monitor. Just saw other replies saying the same thing.

I was able to get everything working.
Desktop connects to USB-B and Display Port.
Laptop connects to USB-C.
I can use the same keyboard and mouse connected to monitor's USB ports when switching video inputs.

So, you can use the same mouse and keyboard for either your desktop or laptop when the monitor shows one of them, but you can't use them when both are split screen. In other words, you can't scroll the mouse back and forth from the laptop half screen to the desktop half screen, correct?

Correct that I only show one of them.
Now that you mentioned the PBP function, I will try it out.

It's makes complete sense that it won't work, but it would be great if you could do it.
