Even just the SD Card slot furnace issue would be enough to warrant one.
That said - this is easily my #2 pick behind the Steam Deck OLED. Excellent hardware - but highly compromised by the SD card failures and (relatively) small battery.
Steam Deck OLED is certainly the better handheld (in my opinion) - as it does more of the "handheld" things better than the windows devices I own. (Standby/resume - auto-updating games - no drivers/funny business - excellent controls/hardware - great battery life - "verified" games in the store)

These manufacturers treat them as gaming consoles instead of gaming PCs, meaning that they want to set a performance target for a generation of devices, which is longer than laptop's one year cycle. Just like Valve debunked the possibility of Steam Deck 2 any time soon, I doubt ASUS or Lenovo will release anything for marginally better performance. They are going to release a next gen device if the device brings something new.
Valve is a software company that has made a really great piece of hardware, and they're content to stand on that and iterate on the software side until the tech markedly improves. Asus and Lenovo couldn't be more different.

YMMV, mine came with the original box, the main console and the charger, that's it. The other accessories are missing. It also came with a 1Tb microSD card and a screen protector. I believe these are added on by the original owner.
I spoke to the sales person about their return policy for open box units, it comes with a 14 day return window for free.
There are other services that they wanted me to get extended warranty and their Bestbuy credit card.
Stay strong and opt out!
Apart from all of this, my unit looked brand new.
When going through the setup, I got a warning that my console was already registered to someone else (probably the original owner). I had to chat with customer support to transfer the registration to me. It took about 2 days. You need to do this incase you need to claim warranty or do an RMA in the future.
I've been using my ROG ally Z1 extreme regularly, I also have a steam deck OLED. Certain games don't perform well on the steam deck but work great on the rog ally. IMO, they both complement each other.
I bought and installed an NVME 2280 adapter ($15) and then installed a 4Tb nvme ssd. storage is now a non-issue.
I hope this helps anyone decide.
