Even just the SD Card slot furnace issue would be enough to warrant one.
That said - this is easily my #2 pick behind the Steam Deck OLED. Excellent hardware - but highly compromised by the SD card failures and (relatively) small battery.
Steam Deck OLED is certainly the better handheld (in my opinion) - as it does more of the "handheld" things better than the windows devices I own. (Standby/resume - auto-updating games - no drivers/funny business - excellent controls/hardware - great battery life - "verified" games in the store)

I have also purchased several items in "Excellent" condition that arrived in terrible condition. A speaker set with a missing subwoofer, items with missing accessories, wrong accessories, strained/dented items, or just straight up the wrong item in the box. Whoever they have checking open box shipped items does not give a flying hoot. I've had to return enough "Excellent" Open box items to Best Buy at this point to know that the description means nothing.
Therefore, I just purchase the cheapest price item I can find, in store preferably, and if it doesn't meet expectations I return it. I'm sure everyone's experience has been different, but I have had far more luck with "fair" items than "Excellent" for whatever reason.
I was seriously worried that I'd be wasting my time setting it up just to be disappointed in the performance compared to the extreme version. For reference I have a 7900xtx gaming pc and all consoles, handhelds, etc. I'm a huge nerd.
Nope, fam, this runs everything at like medium settings at 30 fps at 1080p. Solid. With frame gen and stuff its hitting 45-60 fps. And it does remote streaming from Xbox, ps5, and PC. Plus emulation and windows apps like discord etc. It runs helldivers good at medium settings. The screen is pretty nice, although not as bright as I'd like (500 nits). I think the switch oled has a nicer screen that this but this one looks really smooth, not much backlight bleed, and colors are spot on. Build quality is all plastic but like nice plastic, very light, really nice speakers. At $300 it's a must-buy.
I'm really impressed. Also doing the math with taxes the extreme is like 2x as expensive since it's over $500 after taxes. I got the non extreme for $260 with taxes.
The non-extreme for $260 is a certified slickdeal.
The extreme at $500 is about what'd I'd expect it to cost. The $699 launch price I felt was too high, I canceled my pre-order.
I'm ok with the battery life and being tethered to the charger if playing for over 1.5 hrs. It gets warm too but the heat is not felt because of the exhaust going up and away, never touching your hands.
For now I'm putting on a screen protector and I might get a grip for it. Otherwise it's really solid. I'm not planning on docking this on a monitor at all but did so during set up so I could log in easier with a kb.
Anyways this is a sick device, even the non extreme one is worth picking up (at the right price).
I'd say this extreme one is worth about $500, but its not as "slick" as the non extreme.
I had waited until just today to determine if I'll keep the Z1 non extreme or not and then finally started to purchase accessories for it. I chose these grips

If you are going for black grips, you can get the black case and grip combo for $33 which is $7 less. I opted for clear because I like how it's kind of hidden while attached to the system plus I am considering the denim colored case.

Edit: never knew that SD auto-corrects f**k to fark.

probably because the combination of a good sd card and you run your Ally on 10 watt to minimize heat generation (which is what kills cards or the port itself).
This plus the SD card issue makes this hard to recommend.
Lmao do you even hear yourself
