S23 128 GB: $249
S32+ 256 GB: $349
VZW S23 is same price but seems like not available for now. For ATT read below for instant unlock which worked for many last time. Note that there are reports of this not working but I'm not sure what caused it.
1. There are two timelines for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. The line activates on right when you place the order not the day you receive the phone on hand so you might have to pay the activation fee of $35.
2. You can get a new number in a best buy store or you can use a tello number and port to ATT to do this all online but you would have to make sure porting is successful by going to
https://www.att.com/portstatus/. This is important to verify. Unlock requests might have denied because of this.
3. You can use SIM swap method method to unlock the device.
4. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the SIM provided. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then put the SIM in another unlocked phone, reboot, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.
5. Now go to ATT unlock portal
https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ (in incognito mode) and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of s23 and submit an unlock request using a different email, phone number, name etc not associated with the ATT account.
6. If the IMEI1 (pSim) of the request comes back with an email saying device not registered etc, use the IMEI2 (eSIM) of S23 in step 5.
7.Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.
8. ONLY CANCEL THE LINE AFTER YOU HAVE UNLOCKED THE PHONE. OTHERWISE, YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO UNLOCK IT ANYMORE.
Then after unlocking if you are feeling adventurous and want to flash the phone to an unlocked firmware to get rid of ATT bloat you can follow these steps. It's actually very easy to do with Odin.
1. There are many models of s23 but in US two models are imp. S911U is carrier locked version and S911U1 is the unlocked US version. The firmware for these versions are interchangeable so you can flash the ATT model with S911U1 firmware.
2. Download patched odin v3.14.1_3B_PatchedD.zip from
https://xdaforums.com/t/patched-o...1.3762572/ as regular odin does not allow flashing mismatched firmware.
3. Download the firmware from S911U1 XAA version using frija
https://github.com/SlackingVetera...a/releases (fast) or from
https://samfrew.com/firmware/mode.../Desc/0/10 (slow) Extract as there will be multiple files.
4. Connect S23 to the windows PC. Make sure developer mode is turned on in the phone.
5 .Put s23 in download/recovery/odin mode. Power down. Press Volume up and down together and then press Volume up to go into recovery (a green screen would appear).
6. Start odin and then select different files for different categories and then start.
7, It should be now the US unlocked version.
Cancellation of the ATT account and bill thereafter
== Will ATT send me a bill after the account is cancelled?
Firstly, keep the ATT buyers remorse policy handy when you talk to them. See
https://www.att.com/wireless/return-policy/ click on "Consumer and Signature Customer Program Devices and Accessories" and here are the policy terms
"Service Cancellations within 14 Days. You may call us at 800-331-0500 to cancel wireless service. You are responsible for all applicable fees, prorated access charges, taxes, surcharges, or other charges through the termination date. AT&T will refund your activation fee, if any, if service is terminated within 3 days of activation. The charges for service used on the account before the service termination date may be applied against any down payment."
ATT will send you a bill with the full amount even after you cancel your account so you have to do couple of things to get rid of charges.
1. When you open the bill in myATT app/att website there will be something called "Don't recognize this fee" under the activation. You can click on it to get rid of a activation fee. This is an instant and automatic credit. Also this works even if you cancelled the account after 3 days.
2. Chat with CS to get rid of rest of the charges. Make sure to not fall for credit in the next bill/adjusted in the next bill, Be polite but persistent that you want charges to be credited now. Bring up the policy if you have to.
See
https://slickdeals.net/f/17327499-oneplus-nord-n30-5g-128gb-unlocked-chromatic-gray-cph2513-best-buy-0 recent interactions with ATT CS.

You know what happened? They told me my final bill would be generated today (April 28). I just so happened to go through my junk mail folder (wasn't even aware that today was the day for the final bill). And I found an email with Collections Notice. Damn!@#$ those ATT scums. They should all be fired. How could ATT hire such rubbish of human beings?
I went back to chat, spent close to an hour, explaining everything. The agent was really nice. She went through previous chat histories with other agents and apologized for the misinformation. She provided me with $50 credit and I had to pay $20.XX to officially close the account and the bill. (I had activation fees cancelled by "not recognizing it"). I cancelled the service on the 3rd day after recevieing my phone, but that line probably was activated the day bestbuy shipped my phone, and I proabably was on my 4th day when I cancelled.FYI, I actually had 2 valid reasons to cancel - something went wrong with my port, and I was not receiving incoming calls for 3 days, and my work discount was applicable only to ATT prepaid. Hence I cancelled and swtiched to ATT prepaid the same day.
Here's the content of the email:
Past due amount: $70.70
Total amount due: $70.70
Account number ending in: 5570
Date: 04/28/2024
Hello,
We thank you for choosing us for your wireless service and wanted to let you know your account is now in canceled status. Your telephone number(s) may be available for up to 60 days from the date the service was canceled should you decide to come back and use our services again.
We recently sent you a final bill for your account and our records show you still have an outstanding balance of 70.70. If you've already made the payment, thank you. If not, please make a payment today. For your convenience, you can pay by major credit card, debit card, or electronic check by calling us at 800.947.5096.
If you don't pay the total balance immediately, your account may be referred to an outside collection agency. This may have a negative impact on your credit report.
Sincerely,
AT&T

Will they charge lot on the bill even you cancelled ?
You can cancel the line on chat. But they will send you a bill anyway. As I mentioned in the wiki you have to chat again and be firm to get the credit applied to that bill right away. Make sure it shows only the days the service was active etc. So it's not difficult but takes some time to get everything right.
What happened was, I placed my order last wk then afterwards I changed my mind so I called bestbuy and cancelled it including the plan. The chat rep confirmed that he already cancelled it but then the following day, I received a tracking number confirming that the phone has been shipped. I called them again and they told me that the chat rep didn't really cancelled it so I was really pissed and they told me to just return the phone to store and call att to cancel the line so I called att and cancelled the line/plan for that phone.
Ups tracking shows phone will arrive today. Now im thinking of keeping the phone but I wanted to know if there's a way to do the OP's trick to unlock it even though I already cancelled its att line. I would really appreciate any help, thanks.

If you don't have an ATT account already then it's tricky but here's something you can try. Get a red pocket or H2O prepaid number (any ATT MVNO should work) and put that SIM in the S23. Then try to request unlock using non ATT customer etc and see if that works. I dont know if anyone has tried this before but for the phones which are flex locked (like the ones from Target which gets locked to the network it was first activated on) this seem to work.
'The device you want to unlock is active on another AT&T account. The account owner needs to remove the device from their account first."
Could someone help me out? Thanks.
