Trying to page to that drive with 8gb of ram isn't a good thing.
M1 with the faster drive? Good. M2 with 512? Good. M3+ also good since they went with a non crappy ssd. Any of them with 16gb is also good.
But that's the trap. You see these $650-830 ones and the next thing you know you're +$400 for the upgrades.

The laptops are spectacular deals when they're under $750. I keep thinking about an m1 macbook air. Almost bit when those hit $650 last year.
Resale on m1's should be good too. I'd think that you could get $300 for a mac mini m1 pretty quick or $500 for an m1 macbook air, even in a few years.

Power at 85% with 300 cycles, so considering a bump.
M3 has much faster single core performance and better GPU. I like it because I want snappier apps but I wasn't really complaining comparing to Windows 1260p CPUs since m2 was much faster for me.
I also wanted a little bit better LLM inference
Idk what you are using it for but most people are good with M1. I just like the latest .. I have no need and I am not maxing out my m3 unless I am running a few LLM serially.
As for memory, if I don't need to run LLM, I can live with 8GB with my chrome tabs. YouTube. Etc. occasional zoom no problem 😉. I don't run YouTube lots of chrome tabs and zoom simultaneously since that's just not paying attention to anything simultaneously 😁😁

BUT the keyboard and trackpad SUCK compared to my Thinkpad X1 carbon and a lot heavier as well.
I get the imessage and screen and ecosystem thing but I would never use one myself as a laptop even if this was free. Maybe docked fulltime with a external KB and mouse.
All the fanboys have no idea what a trackpad and KB should feel on a true laptop. Im amazed by the ignorant reviewers on youtube with fancy cameras and background and fanboys who keep saying KB on macbooks are great
Either they have NO exposure to outside world OR they are just plain dumb OR the ones who buy laptop on a loan or CC payment plan.
