I actually own this unit and for this price I dont know anything on the market that touches it for home theater applications
I suggest you read the AVS forum thread from actual owners who have set this up and know the tips and tricks specific to this Onkyo
Each brand seems to have implement Dirac a bit differently..IMO..the Onkyo is a simplified set up of Dirac

Kind of a niche need, but I like connecting my old PS2 or Nintendo NES consoles for some retro gaming to my main TV. There are external adapters that are either 1) cheap and not very good or 2) extremely good and even more expensive.
If Dirac Live rolled in is one, this is about the only real thing this has over the 3800.
On the 3800 you have to purchase Dirac Live for $350 but you get many more features this doesn't have.
As a matter of fact you pretty much get all the ones on the RZ70 and then some.
A renowned AV Professional(AA) who worked directly with Dirac with key tips & tricks!
Covers a few common confusing issues and explanations.
It applies to any Dirac Live capable AVR.

At that price point I would buy the RZ70 day long.... a lot higher performance than the Denon X3800 in every way
Better dacs, much better amp/power supply and Dirac license and calibration mic included

This one is better if you need more HDMI 2.1 ports or Dirac, but the x4700 and your x3800 has Auro 3D, which is a great option for upmixing basic DD content to Atmos/DTSX level quality with object based sounds.
After comparing all these i went with the 3800 when it hit $1k. Added both Dirac RCs(didn't need) for $560 on the sale in January.
It competes with the RZ70 especially if you have an external amp, we buy AVRs with pre outs for a reason after all.
Unless ALL your speakers are full range/reference speakers the added power on the RZ70 are negated when using your pre outs.
Bench tests aren't really audible and in practice not much relevance imo.
Just look at this and how people rave about this yet when benched tested by Amir at AS he concluded
"The amplifier has serious power limiting "feature" and even without it, it is not competitive with other products out there".
If you really want obvious better than RZ70, Cinema 50 + Dirac, great match.
Would really consider it if a new one came down to AC4L refurb price!

If you felt you needed Dirac, many took advantage of the deal in January and paid $245 for Dirac Live.
$1145 well worth it for the many other features included over this receiver!
FYI Dirac regularly has the 30% discount around December 😜
