Well, if there was a good deal on ridgid brushed I'd probably get them considering they have LSA.

As far as brushed ryobi, they are fine for casual DIY stuff but if I had a bigger DIY project I'd never want to count on them

Lol, yeah... I have ridgid tools too but I actually stay away from the brushed versions and just stick with brushless with ridgid also. The brushed ryobi, don't get me wrong, I don't think they're junk, very usable and dependable, just underwhelming in performance. So yeah, brushless is so worth it to pay a bit extra for.

I've got brushed and brushless versions of the RYOBI, as well as a few Dewalt tools, and would 💯 recommend sticking with the DeWalt. The RYOBI is fine, but based on my experience, when it comes to ergonomics, power, and battery options, Dewalt tools win.) HTH! https://static.slickdealscdn.com/ima...lies/smile.gif
If you get a little further down the road as far as powertools go you'll eventually get most of the platforms for one reason or another. For example.... I have ryobi and have been expanding my collection. Why ? Ryobi has a selection of tools that is huge in size and goes from wood working power tools to cleaning, gardening and house maintinence. Many tools only ryobi had or has so if you wanted one, ryobi was it. Ridgid, in performance it's generally good or even top level but the price is still reasonable. Dewalt, some woodworking tools like their cordless router and their circular saws are feature rich and power wise basically the strongest in the market. You wanna cut something fast, dewalt circular saws are it. You want a cordless router that is strong and least likely to bog/stall dewalt is it. Makita, if you want just a well made, well performing tool with less vibration, more refinement and are appreciated by professionals for it's "feel" in use, makita is it. Greenworks, they have the best performing self propelled mowers and chainsaws... feels like electric version of real tools instead of the joke consumer version that does not perform well. Kobalt.... another near the top performing line of tools..... but since they don't sell all that well, excellent in price. Craftsmen, MataboHPT, powersmart, etc.... Yes I have all these platforms and maybe even others I've forgotten about. You end up getting each one for the unique feature, trait or even offer they have that makes it worth while to get. So really, be in it long enough and you start to become brand agnostic and just buy the powertool you need the features and characteristics of because you likely already have the platform battery and charger already.

Oh yeah....I haven't even mentioned the various battery analyzers, cell chargers and battery spot welders you'll end up getting as your battery packs get old and you start repairing/ refurbishing them along with repairing the tools yourself because it's faster to do so than deal with warranty if it even still has it. So those tools are multi meters, amp clamps a whole range of hand tools like screw drivers, trim/case openers, soldering tools, and sometimes an oscilloscope to diagnose all the issues that crop up with cordless powertools that have gotten old and out of warranty. Powertools, sometimes it sucks you in and before you know it it has become your hobby.

I just grabbed the Dewalt 20V Oscillating tool deal with 1.5Ah battery for $99. I don't have any Ryobi tools, thus no batteries. But is this a better tool than the Dewalt?

The DeWalt is a great tool. Don't know about this one.

None in stock my local HD for the multi tool. After looking at it though, it doesn't have a paddle, only a dial to turn it on. They had the new model in stock though which has a paddle ($129). Didn't get that one either but it looks far more preferable to just a dial.

Brushless! Generally, better performance, and if nothing else: you'll never have to replace worn out brushes!

Pick a brand and stick with it. You want tools that use the same battery.

I stopped by a homedepot about 2-3 months on my way to work and they have a bunch of 5lb nails and screws for $2.50 a box. Even picked up 2 50lb boxes for a penny. Filled up my storage shed on side of the wall full of boxes. I think I spend $100 bucks all together

I have the brushless version. I can't vouch for brushed but this thing is a beast. I heard the brushed version had bad vibration- brushless has its share of vibration so I could see that being an issue.

I mean it's a vibratory tool. I use mine whenever I get paid, blades for these tools are largely crap, I wish starret would offer them. If there is any chance of hitting a nail you best be running a metal cutting blade or one nail and it's no teeth left. Good blades that last a while would make these tools so much better.

Anyone use battery adapters so you you can fit one brand battery on a different brand tool? The bummer is ryobi batteries design prohibits use on most others but you can use many brands on ryobi tools.

Went to my local HD yesterday (central IL) and was able to get the PBLMT51 at this price.

My wife was making a Home Depot run yesterday, and I sent her the pic of the exterior wood screws listed in this thread. She checked, but they were full price. Asked someone about it, and they offered to match the price. Score and thanks!

I have this tool and replaced the brushed version that lost it's magic smoke with it. It's a great tool and has cut through a ton of stuff for me.

For those examples saying it doesn't hold blades right or they can't get them tight, it's is 100% user error. I've used all sort of cheap to expensive blades and never once had these problems. My only issue is that wood blades tend to burn up fast. Cheap to expensive doesn't matter, but that's a blade issue, not tool issue.

The brushed version was $44 a couple of days ago with the battery hack. Is the brushless version worth $20 more?

In general, brushless motors are much better than brushed. They are more efficient and last longer.
