Realizing this is 14" and some people NEED a 14", if you're flexible and 15.6" is OK, then the Walmart deal for the Vivobook S 15 is still good. Same price ($749) and nearly identical specs, except Vivobook includes a 3K OLED 120Hz screen. I know some people say ZenBook is "better build" but I have the Vivobook and it's sturdy and light and works great. Love the OLED 3K 120Hz screen and great specs for $749.

EDIT: As is noted in another post, the Vivobook is NOT touchscreen.

Bought it from last sale at $100 more. What I don't like about it: both USBCs on the right side so the charging can be inconvenient and/or messy depending on your desk setup. Also if you charge with a bent charging cable then the cable is in the way of the aux port. OLED can blink under some settings when it tries to adapt to environment lighting
What I love about it: battery life (14 hrs easy), lightweight, camera cover

The biggest drawback here is the 60hz display

What warranty do the open boxes have?

I bought one 10 years ago, paying extra to have it carefully renovated by Geek Squad. Sadly, the last owner locked it and it was unusable. Seemed odd that GS could renovate it when they couldn't turn it on.
You think a 10 year old experience is still relevant?

A common issue with touch-OLED displays is graininess. Some people report it in their reviews. That could be a huge drawback also.

Bummer about refresh rate but giving open box excellent a try. Have 13th gen 14 OLED to compare to. That thing heats up fast when plugged in running full speed. Also ARM laptop reviews should be incoming soon so might move to that.

I had this for 3 days before something happened with the power delivery or I had some kind of firmware issue.
It was fine, then suddenly it took 3+ minutes to load and it *never* went past 300MHz, even after a clean Windows install.
Yes, I tried it plugged in. Yes, I tried it unplugged. Yes, it was on the latest firmware, drivers, etc.

The OLED compared to my HP Spectre 13 X360 OLED is clearly inferior. The digitizer layer is very obvious and the resolution is only okay.
Compared to my ASUS Zenbook Q409 OLED (which I would love, except for the infernal 8GB of soldered RAM that grinds everything to a halt.), the screen is clearly, plainly, worse as well.

Really, the only good thing about the screen is that you don't have to enable scaling.

I got a refund from BB for the $750 paid for this model.

open box is "new", so Asus should honor the full warranty from the date you purchase.

Besides that, you can return to Best Buy, typically within 2 weeks, with or without cause AFAICT. The cashiers are generally happy to have you open and test out open box before you leave the store.

Looks sexy but integrated intel gpu is a non starter for me. I don't expect high end gaming in this price range but still.... also 16gb ram which I assume is soldered as most of the zenbooks are.

edit - also noticing 2 usb c, 1 usb a, hdmi port, audio. So bravo that it does usb C charging, 1 usb A port is slim if you want to plug in a drive/dongle/ethernet adapter etc.... probably want to look into a usb C hub with ethernet and usb A if you're going to use for work and need to jack in.

really? i heard these intel arcs are comparable to the 780m, which is used on the ROG ally, legion go, and recent glut of gaming portables.. am i wrong? i was going to use it for very light gaming on the go (cant beat that 2.8lbs!)

EDIT: this is someone's review on the bestbuy website: "The laptop performs well for light gaming, handling most games smoothly at low settings and 1080p. I did have to drop it to 800p for some games and for others I was able to get to Medium settings without too many problems. Control performs particularly well in my testing and was around 60 FPS with medium settings at 1080p. I was able to play Call of Duty MW3 at 60 as well, and Starfield I targeted 30 and was able to achieve that. "

I think that bodes particularly well unless you step up to a dedicated GPU like a G14, but then that laptop is almost 4lbs? what would you recommend instead if you want a thin and light portable laptop that can do casual gaming?

in synthetic benchmarks this handily beats the 780m, isn't that quite a win already, and is double the performance of the older intel Iris Xe igpus
