BEWARE the HDMI AUDIO HANDSHAKE!!!

Holy gee wiz. 🤕 OUCH!
Using the Onkyo RZ50 against the Marantz 7015 that I both personally own and have for quite a while
Its the Onkyo with Dirac day all day long over Audyssey XT32 in the Marantz
Better sound separation, better steering and small nuances of sound using Dirac on the RZ50
And none of that incessant tweaking I used to do all the time with Audyssey where I thought it sounded good..then I listen to something else and change my mind and tweak it again...
I used to own 4 Audyseey XT32 equipped products. I have gotten rid of three of them. I am down to 1 and using Diarc on the other 3 units

Years ago I had an issue with a Denon 4308 that they tried to fix twice and then bought back
A few months ago i had an issue with a Marantz 7015 that I sent to their service center( Panurgy) to be repaired. It came back broken
After numerous weeks of back and forth they replaced the Marantz 7015 with another unit
About the same time as I owned the Denon 4308, years ago,..I also owned an Onkyo 875 which had a failed HDMI board. Onkyo replaced the board under warranty with no issue
This was actually one that we tested against the Denon 4308 and the Onkyo was the easy winner in the amp/power supply section .
I also had a Denon 4520 that was sent in for a warranty repair
I have not been impressed with Denon/Marantz customer service( or Samsung television) for products that I have owned
In regards to sound quality (specifically, Audessey vs dirac), I can say Denon is better. It took minutes to setup, sounds amazing, and continues to work where hardware issues prevented my past Onkyos from playing anything over HDMI at all.

By the way, didnt say I was impressed with Onkyo's customer service
What I did say was that I was not impressed with Denon/Marantz's customer service
I personally have had problems , including unit replacement, with all of them
I have gotten ridden of my prior Marantz pre/pro and Denon AVR. I owned the prior flagships and replaced them with Arcam units
I have been extremely impressed with Arcam's customer service..its head and should above both Onkyo's and Denon/Marantz
You have a different opinion than mine in regard's to Audyssey versus Dirac
In fact there is a double blind out test out there with several Av professionals that places Audyssey in a bad position compared to many others, including Dirac
But..to each their own ears and experience right?

The Denon X3800 failed and the Denon X4800 barely passed
So..if they are your litmus test you are shopping in the over $2500 price range for an AVR
BEWARE the HDMI AUDIO HANDSHAKE!!!
Here is the RZ50/7100 AVS forum thread with over 500 pages of posts with hundreds of owners.
Many of them bought this unit almost 4 years ago and its still going strong

Read the entire 1st post and compare against the RZ50 review (especially graphs and charts).

As for the RZ50..I have seen zero actual complaints about impedance challenges in AVS forum with several people owning that model for a few years now
https://www.avsforum.co
Like you they have had no issues
But I do understand that there are people that will not buy anything that fails Amir's tests
Thats a real group of buyers and I know that
They are just buying products at higher price points
But just like you stated you are satisfied with a piece that doesnt pass Amir's testing..there are many( based on what I see on AVS forums) that are satisfied with the Onkyo RZ50 and bought it at introduction
https://www.avsforum.co
I am not sure what your point is here
One can pick and choose what elements are important. Or perhaps they dont experience the failure points in their use
OR..like I have seen many on AVS forum do as well, they eliminate a product that doesnt pass Amir's testing process
I personally own two AVR's, placed in secondary rooms with bookshelf speakers, that both failed.
The Onkyo RZ50 and the Marantz 7015
To my ears the Onkyo is a sonically better unit...but the fact of the matter is that both units failed Amir's testing process.

They are both very comparable, anyone saying one is head and shoulders better, isn't comfortable with proper implementation or has an agenda.
Having experience with all tiers of both and having both on the 3800.
They are very comparable and only give Dirac the slight edge mainly because of DLBC.
Without it, you can easily find the Audyssey works better.
If you're talking about the A1EVO script.
Having experience with it, it's pretty impressive especially for the $20 cost!
TBH you should have already have the Editor app anyways, it's worth its weight in gold imo.
However..I would like to know where you have information that Audyssey does better
I have heard quite the opposite, and my ears would agree since I have had both room correction systems in my home for a few years now
There is actually a double blind test , with published Av professionals out there, that definitely put Audyssey on a lower tier than Dirac and a few others
As for reliability..its been about the same for me among the Asian brands. I have literally had warranty replacement units of about every brand over the years
As for customer service, Arcam is the best I have had...and that is inclusive of both Audio and Video products..as I recently had a nasty time with a Samsung TV replacement that took 6 weeks
But as I stated before..these anecdotal situations are not really significant as you can see the far different experiences that you and I have had

The only thing I'm not sure if is which version of dirac they're referring to, as it seems like there are many.
Also, I have a multi-sub setup, which I've read repeatedly that dirac has trouble with. I have not used the app. I've only used the in-amp setup with the positionable mic. Took a few mins and sounds amazing to my ears. I would not likely qualify as a true "audiophile", but I have a good ear for sound, love most types of music, and have been playing guitar/bass (and even some drums) since I was 11 (48 now). I am incredibly picky about my sound, and typically spend way too long setting up my systems (including vehicles) the way I like it. Audyssey really impressed me from that aspect, as I didn't feel I had to fiddle with anything (except turning up the subs just a tad bit more).
